Tim McKnight Biography

Tim McKnight founded McKnight Guitars in 1992. He previously honed his craft over many years of repairing instruments built by others. In the process, Tim came to appreciate the elegance of guitar designs that work - and learned a great deal from those that didn't. This invaluable experience provided Tim with the perfect environment in which to develop his own style of fine custom guitars, artfully blending tradition with innovation to achieve a new level of excellence.

Tim is a member of the Guild of American Luthiers (GAL) and the Association of Stringed Instrument Artisans (ASIA). It is through association with professional organizations such as these that he stays on top of all the latest innovations in the custom instrument marketplace. He studied with world renowned luthier Ervin Somogyi to even further hone his craft. Tim also shares knowledge and networks with other luthiers and players on Internet forums such Acoustic Player Magazine, 13th Fret, Acoustic Guitar Forum, and Luthier's Forum.
