With this well-cared for Sheppard Ave Maria, beautiful straight-grained Brazilian Rosewood is paired with a highly figured bearclaw Sitka Spruce top, resulting in a guitar with power and articulation in spades. Bass notes are strong and resonant, and are balanced perfectly by strong shimmering trebles. From the rose inlay on the headstock to the gorgeous presentation-grade abalone rosette and body trim, the craftsmanship is wonderful as we've come to expect from Gerald Sheppard. With the included pickup, this is an excellent choice for fingerstyle performance.

2002 Sheppard Ave Maria - Grand Auditorium Acoustic Guitar Player Reviews

Player Reviews:

"I've been working with Gerald for years and have enjoyed watching his work evolve, so it's a treat to get one of his earlier instruments in the shop. This Ave Maria model has really opened up with time -- the trebles have a great sparkle and the basses are assertive and punchy. What's really nice is how balanced the voice is -- each string sings out in perfect concert with the others. That also means it has great volume and can be easily played with a light touch." - Paul Heumiller

"This is one of Gerald's earlier guitars and it has his older peghead inlay design and fingerboard design. The tone is characteristically sweet and mellow, perfect for fingerstyle players. The neck feels wide and fat which may appeal to players who also play classical guitar. " - Al Petteway
