All
models are available with Spruce or Cedar tops. Spruce
top model numbers end with "0" while Cedar
tops end with "5". For example, A20 is a Model
A with Walnut/Spruce and an A25 is a Model A with Walnut/Cedar.

| Solid Timbers:
McIlroy uses only solid timbers throughout the construction
of every instrument. |
| Soundboards:
All soundboards come from split logs, giving them extra
strength and tone. |
| Soundboard bracing:
All bracing also comes from split logs for the same
reason as above. McIlroy's unique bracing pattern gives
strength to the soundboard and allows him to construct
a thinner more vibrant top. Every top is individually
voiced to give the best response with the maximum strength. |
| Inlays: A,
AS, AJ and (n) Ranges have abalone and solid wood rosettes.
All have solid wood bindings and purflings. (All materials
are subject to availability and may change). |
| The Neck: Every
neck is constructed form five pieces of solid timber.
These timbers vary from model to model, for example,
the A30 acoustic guitar would have two pieces of mahogany
with two sycamore laminates and a rosewood centre laminate.
This give the necks added strength and stability. They
have solid ebony fingerboards and are bound with various
woods. All the necks are jointed to the body via a dovetail
joint, expertly fitted by hand to each instrument. The
necks are also fitted with an integral two way truss
rod. |
| Finish: One
of McIlroy's most important features is the finish we
apply to each instrument. Over the last twelve years
McIlroy has found that a heavy build of lacquer stifles
the potential sound of the instrument. That's why McIlroy
painstakingly build up each of the 12 coats of lacquer
thinly until the final finish is achieved (almost like
French Polish, but with cellulose lacquer). He does
not use a grain filler as he feels this changes the
true natural colour of the wood. McIlroy strongly believes
that a wooden instrument should look and feel like a
wooden instrument (not plastic) and that's why he creates
a finish which brings out the beauty of the wood. |
