R.L. (Bob) Mattingly made fine classical instruments and was the owner of "The World of Strings", a music store in Long Beach, CA. His career as a luthier began in the early '60s and he was primarily self taught. In the early 70's he visited many of the great builders in Spain, and even spent a couple of days in the shop with his hero Miguel Rodriguez. Mattingly built over 700 guitars before his untimely death in 1992.

This 1987 Spruce top Mattingly concert guitar is wonderful. Very strong with powerful projection and pristine clarity. It is expressive and musical in every way. A delight to play and to hear. With Mattingly's passing his guitars are hard to find and extremely collectible in addition to being superb musical instruments.
