1996 Somogyi Thin-Body Mod D Indian Rosewood/Sitka Spruce
This is the first one of these I’ve seen, and I think it is very cool. The thin body makes it really comfortable to hold and creates a nice balanced tone. The bass is not as pronounced as a standard Mod D, which makes the idea of having the installed pickup in it even better. The player can dial in as much bass as necessary in the pickup without the guitar’s natural acoustic bass overpowering it. This guitar has been well-cared for. There’s something I can’t quite place my finger on about this Somogyi. It’s clearly unlike anything else I’ve seen from Ervin’s shop. I think the smaller body emphasizes the balance across the strings so there really isn’t a register that overpowers the others. It almost reminds me of the 000 12-fret that Ervin made for me with a multiscale fretboard
