This Baritone is the guitar equivalent of a 20oz porterhouse steak: at first glance it seems like too much, but after the first bite you know it’s a perfect fit. We don’t know what Marc Beneteau’s been feeding his regular guitars to make them grow up to be such impressive baritones, but the results are hard to miss. Juicy, fat trebles. Bass response with some meat on its bones. Sustain so prolonged you have to chase it away with a stick.
Marc put together this 2007 powerhouse with a shorter (in Baritone land) 27” scale and his M body (16 1/8” lower bout) in a Macassar Ebony and Sitka Spruce package—the Ebony and scale warm up the voice and keep it articulate, while the Sitka makes sure all those beefy overtones project well beyond the soundhole. There’s also a Laskin-style Arm Bevel and a soundport in the upper bout, and a McIntyre Feather pickup with which to make a splash into amplified territory. Played in nicely but in like new condition, this Beneteau Baritone is a delicious pièce de résistance you won’t want to miss out on.I used to have a Beneteau Baritone that I treasured. It inspired many songs. I play baritone because it takes me away every time I hear that deep, beautiful voice. It's like playing a different instrument but you get to use everything you already know. This one has a crisp voice that sets it apart from other baris, and the soundport keeps you in touch with your notes even in a busy setting.
Marc is an amazing builder and his Baritones are always clear and beautiful sounding. This one is excellent! It's really nice-sounding tuned to AEADEA (like DADGAD tuned down). I was impressed with the even balance and the ease of playing this baritone. The scale doesn't feel "too long" compared to a full scale length standard guitar. It's beautifully designed as well. Overall a winner on many levels.
