Berkowitz
David builds a variety of guitar models including his popular Baritone design. He has taken his training from the Roberto-Venn School of Lutherie, The American School of Lutherie, and most recently Ervin Somogyi, and developed a wonderful sense of style all his own. His instrument are beautifully constructed with the voice always being the priority. Clean lines and well-executed details permeate David's work. We've known David for quite a while and are excited to offer his instruments to our customers.
Berkowitz's interest in building guitars came early, at the age of four, and was fostered by his discovery of the works of David Russell Young and Irving Sloane, both of whom wrote the early modern treatises on guitar making in the 1970s. In 1985, Berkowitz attended the Roberto-Venn School of Lutherie. Berkowitz continued his lutherie education on his own, attending seminars at the American School of Lutherie, and most recently with Master Luthier Ervin Somogyi.

Berkowitz began building professionally in 1993 and continues to build fine acoustic guitars, baritones, and acoustic basses for the professional musician. Berkowitz is a member of the Guild of American Luthiers and ASIA – The Association of Stringed Instrument Artisans. I've long enjoyed David Berkowitz's instruments. Being a Baritone player myself, I'm attracted to David's clear, present voice of his instruments. He is a true student of the craft always seeking knowledge and employing new ideas. In recent years his voicing has been inspired by the teachings of Ervin Somogyi and it has greatly enhanced the energy and tone of David's guitars. From Concert to Baritone there is a Berkowitz for all players.
