New Lambe A Style with F Holes Figured Maple/Sitka
This is an A style Mandolin in Sitka Spruce and Flamed Maple from luthier Wes Lambe. Wes is a newcomer to us here at Dream Guitars and he has set himself a high standard with everything we have seen. The build quality and voicing on this mando are fantastic – it has a great “chop” but also a warmth and charisma that we don’t often find in A styles. Volume is something you won’t have to worry about with this mandolin, you can play it sweet and soft or really dig into it if you are in a bluegrass jam.

This is the first guitar we have had in the shop from North Carolina-based luthier Wes Lambe, and boy are we impressed. Just holding this Jumbo 000, you really get a sense of the passion Wes has for building guitars. Wes has a great ear when its comes to voicing his instruments, and this particular one has a full and rich tone with a panoply of pleasing overtones. The time-honored combination of Brazilian Rosewood and Adirondack Spruce has been utilized to full effect here, and the evenness of tone and power from string to string, up and down the fingerboard, is remarkable. Without a doubt, this is a perfect fingerstyle guitar, with enough headroom to be really dug into with a plectrum if needed. Wes has garnered some high praise from incredible players like Pat Metheny, Charlie Hunter, Mark Kelly, and quite a few others, so you know his guitars can really sing. Grab this little gem while you can, it won’t be around long!

My instruments draw on time-honored traditions of the master builders from generations past, incorporate the best in present day techniques and materials, and reflect my own experiences as a performing musician for over two decades.
I have a rich and wide-ranging work history, both as a luthier and repair shop operator. As a professional player, I understand that music making is always at its best when you are performing on a top quality instrument. Each guitar I make is unique, and as such, it will impart a singular personality to your own sound and style.
I incorporate carbon fiber reinforcement and modern Epoxies where necessary for reliability and stability. I also use modern CNC technology where absolute digital precision is needed. Fanned-fret ®* fretboards are slotted, brass tailpieces are machined, complex inlays and neck joints are routed, etc. with unmatched precision.
In other areas where “tone” and “feel” are the objective, I employ the use of more traditional techniques. Hot hide glue is used for all bracing, acoustic bridges, and neck joints. For centuries, this all natural glue has been used by makers of the finest musical instruments for its resistance to “creep”, and its superior acoustic properties. Archtop plates are graduated and voiced using finger planes and scrapers. Fingerboards are leveled with hand planes. Braces are shaped, comfort contours are carved, and plates voiced using knives, gouges and chisels. All of my necks are individually carved using rasps, files, scrapers and lots of hand sanding.
Wes Lambe’s made quite the impression with Pat Metheny: Pat used on of his guitars almost exclusively on his latest album, and thanked Wes in the liner notes. I can think of dozens of luthiers who must be burning with envy at the thought.
IN ORDER TO KEEP HIS CURRENT CUSTOMERS HAPPY, AND MAINTAIN WHAT IS LEFT OF HIS SANITY, WES HAS HAD TO STOP TAKING NEW ORDERS FOR CUSTOM INSTRUMENTS. HE HOPES TO OPEN UP HIS WAIT LIST AT SOME POINT IN THE FUTURE.
