1900s Weissenborn Style 1, All-Koa
The holy grail of old school square necks! We’re in love with this Weissenborn Style 1 from the early 1900s, decked out in gorgeous Koa from tuner to tail and singing loud and oh so clear with its voice of the ages. The voice is characterized by a sweetness and warmth in the mids that spills out into the bottom and top ends for an enveloping, mellow flavor. It’s just a joy to hear. Our repair folks have gone over this one and given it a clean bill of health, too, so it’s ready to keep on making music!

We have a rare instrument here, a 1930 Weissenborn Style 1. lap Steel in all Koa. The Weissenborn guitar has long been the gold standard in the non resonator slide guitar scene. With that classic woody growl it is hard not to fall in love with the Weissenborn sound, just playing a few licks conjurs up memories of the delta blues or the beautiful beaches of Hawaii. this Weissenborn is in spectacular shape, with only some discrete finish checking and the stray ding or two on the back and sides.
Weissenborn is a brand of lap slide guitar manufactured by Hermann Weissenborn in Los Angeles in the 1920s and 1930s.These instruments are now highly sought after, and form the base for most non-resonator acoustic lap steel guitars currently produced. It is estimated that fewer than 5000 original instruments were produced, and unknown how many now survive. Both single and twin neck models were produced, both with highly adapted bodies that run the full length of the fingerboards, making conventional playing completely impossible. The brand is now used for reproduction instruments.
