Description

Here we have a remarkably pristine 1978 Gibson Johnny Smith archtop that looks as though it never left the case. It was hardly ever played and looks one year old, not decades old. It's wide body is beloved by jazz players for it's full, rounded tone, and the playability of the neck is exceptional. Add to that the single cutaway, incredible sunburst, and art deco styling, and you've got the flagship of the vintage Gibson archtop line.

When I first laid eyes on this Johnny Smith archtop, I was in love. The sunburst is enough to take your breath away, and the new Lollar pickup we installed sounds fantastic -- creamy, warm, and punchy -- a definite improvement over the original. This is a wonderful jazz box that's sure to turn every head in the room.
