The 2024 Scott Walker Legacy Santa Cruz Hollowbody in all burled Rosewood is an instrument you don’t see—or hear—every day. The level of craftsmanship and detail is astounding: from the hardware and pickup covers to the tone and volume knobs, every component is visually arresting. On the back, a brass backplate is adorned with a motif of a Qilin, an Eastern Asian mythological creature often regarded as a harbinger of prosperity and serenity—another detail that elevates this guitar far beyond the ordinary.
Being crafted entirely from solid burled Rosewood, the Legacy showcases dramatic figuring, a unique tonal character, and a commanding weight. At 9 lbs. 8 oz., it is not for the faint of heart, yet there is something magical in the density and mass of this mighty instrument. It looks like a steampunk Deadhead’s fairytale come to life, and sonically it can live just about anywhere you can imagine. Outfitted with custom hand-wound Scott Walker Humbucker/Firebird pickups with engraved covers, the Legacy also incorporates a full suite of Walker innovations, including an OBEL with a new two-channel buffer, a booster with gain trim pot, a Walker Coil Cut Booster, a brass adjustable bridge and tailpiece, and Walker’s signature aluminum “cactus top” knobs.
Much like the Qilin etched on its backplate, this Legacy is an absolute beast—one to behold in both sight and sound.
