A 13-fret fingerpicking wonder here: a 2005 Santa Cruz H13L. The “L” designation, of course, refers to a Nick Lucas–style body—13 frets to the body, and the body itself is rather deep: 4″ at the heel and 5″ at the tail. This guitar has such an overtone presence, it’s quite staggering. Adirondack spruce on top and some mighty fine Brazilian Rosewood on the back and sides. Abalone appointments. A great example of traditional lutherie in a modern presentation. What a treat it is to have this guitar around.
