- Description

Such a delight to visit with this beauty. Michael Bashkin builds premium grade modern fingerstyle instruments, just like this 2017 SJ with Myrtlewood back and sides plus Italian Spruce on top.The voice is characterized by clarity, balance, and smoothness, equally at home in Standard tuning as it is in DADGAD and some C tunings (thanks to the 26-25.4" multiscale fingerboard). Frets are dressed with semi-hemispherical fret ends, making for a very smooth playing experience under your fingertips. At the headstock you'll find a delicate inlay scheme with micro purflings looping across the headplate veneer and between the Waverly tuners. All of this comes wrapped in a Hoffee flight case with an added layer of Thinsulate for maximum protection.
And when you aren't playing this slice of sweet lutherie from Michael, check out his Luthier On Luthier podcast for extensive, in-depth interviews with some of our favorite builders on the scene today!

I'm a big fan of Myrtlewood. It has sort of a Mahogany-like energy and push, and paired here with Italian Spruce Michael Bashkin capture an evocative voice. His build quality is always exceptional and he one of the great guys in the business for sure.
I love the clarity, even response, and overall just clean tone of this Bashkin SJ. Note definition is super consistent across the registers, making for a guitar that you can color any way you want, depending on style or attack. This overall quality of transparency makes for a very dynamic instrument.
