From Bernie Lehmann: " Model 1887 is designed for the modern fingerstylist. It is balanced to have bright trebles and clear, fundamental basses for better amplification and recording. The unique Lehmann "X" bracing is designed to increase the notoriously weak upper partials and give the guitar unparalleled carrying power. These are loud guitars! The standard neck width at the nut is slightly wider, which is what many fingerstylists prefer." We can tell you this is a great fingerstyle guitar, it is strong even when payed lightly and very even and balanced. The voice is sweet and powerful all at once. The pictures show you how beautiful this guitar is with it's intricate inlay work that gives it a very 19th Century feel. The carved heel, slotted headstock and stunning Pearwood body all add up to the very rich character of this Lehman guitar.
Bernie Lehmann is really on to something with the voicing of his instruments that makes them exquisite for fingerstyle music. The balance and power are a joy and they play effortlessly. This 1887 has a gorgeous Pearwood body, carved neck heel, slotted headstock and intricate inlays that make it a one-of-a-kind treasure...
The decoration on this instrument is reminiscent of the very early guitars with lots of scrimshaw style engraving on ivoroid. The guitar is very easy to play and has a nice balanced tone.
