Very Good In the 1970s the guitar went back to Martin and they re-topped this guitar. We had Master Luthier Bill Tippin undo the rosewood plate Martin had put in and put back in the proper size Maple plate for this year. Bill made a new bridge and period accurate maple bridge plate, period accurate pickguard, reset the neck, planed teh fingerboard and refretted, reglued loose braces, stabilized minor top cracks and updated the tuners with Waverly relics. Playability is SUPERB!

Description

Here we have a wonderful prewar 1937 Martin D-28 in Adirondack Spruce and straight-grained, quartersawn Brazilian Rosewood. The owner bought it when he was just 14 yrs old and he's owned it ever since. He's now unable to play, as he's 89 years young, and wants someone else to love and play this fine '37 Martin. But there's more to the story, his daughter is a divorced, single mom putting herself through a Masters Degree program and struggling to pay for the last year of her schooling. The sale of this guitar will not only ensure that one of the best old Martins continues to make music, but it will also allow a 89 year old Father to help his daughter and grandchildren have a better life. That's what we call a win-win in the guitar world.

This 1937 Martin D-28 was sent back to Martin in the 1970s and they re-topped the guitar. We had Master Luthier Bill Tippin go over it so that it sounds amazing and plays like a new guitar. See the condition notes for details. Here's a chance at one of the rare D-28 from the finest era but priced right do to it's condition. Could be a great candidate for a re-top project to restore it to 1937 specs!

There is nothing but good Mojo in this guitar, one long time owner who's only selling to have it be played and enjoyed and to help his family. That's a guitar I'd like to hold every day!

This Martin D-28 is one of the coolest guitars I've had the chance to play at Dream Guitars. It has perfect clear and resonant tones that sing out whether you're flatpicking or strumming and has been expertly set up by none other than Bill Tippin. Playing this guitar will show you why these 1930's Martins have become so collectable.
