Description

R.L. (Bob) Mattingly made fine classical instruments and was the owner of "The World of Strings", a music store in Long Beach, CA. His career as a luthier began in the early '60s and he was primarily self taught. In the early 70's he visited many of the great builders in Spain, and even spent a couple of days in the shop with his hero Miguel Rodriguez. Mattingly built over 700 guitars before his untimely death in 1992.

This incredible 1968 Mattingly has tons of character and mojo. It is one of those instruments that you wish could talk. The playability is excellent. The Rosewood back and sides and Spruce top yield a tone that embodies decades of tradition--a round, robust sound with great mids. This very collectible and very musical Mattingly will be a treasure for some lucky player.

Mattingly guitars are considered very fine instruments from a prolific and talented luthier, Bob Mattingly. This guitar has some miles on it and has had numerous repairs, but it is solid now and the great tone was preserved. A rare and collectible gem.
