Keep your friends close, your guitars closer. You’ll want to keep this latest R.1 from Tyler Robbins as close as possible. Make sure you’ve got enough room in your bed for both the R.1 and your significant other; we don’t want any trouble! Gorgeous Ziricote back and sides, Engelmann Spruce top, and Tyler’s unique appointments in Maple, Koa, and Ziricote. Side dots are aluminum, mini Gotohs offer smooth operation, flawless fit-n-finish and a 13-fret neck scoots the bridge closer to the center of the lower bout for extra warmth and volume.
Regarding the voice: equal parts open and breathy with good separation between the bass and mids. The trebles have overtones big enough to cast a shadow. Lush upper mids, great separation between registers. The 13-fret neck carve is delightfully quick to the touch. The bass strikes with a crisp fundamental that translates well for dropped tunings like DADGAD.
Brand new and with such an opened up voice? This Robbins R.1 is only going to improve with age, and it’s starting at the top of the food chain.
Tyler Robbins does it again. He is among my favorite new makers on the scene. This guitar appeals to me on so many levels. Cosmetically it’s fresh and exciting yet familiar. Tonally it is sublime with a huge and enveloping bass that is matched equally by the round and articulate trebles. The notes seem to blossom as they come out the soundboard, and they compel me to keep playing. The neck and setup are perfect for fingerstyle, but this guitar also strums up really well due to the body size. If you’re interested in getting a great guitar from a young maker before his fame skyrockets this one is for you.
