2009 Hill Signature Indian/European
We love getting Kenny Hill Guitars in the shop. They play great, sound great and are built with precision and attention close to detail. This particular Signature guitar was built by Kenny himself, and it is spectacular. It features Indian Rosewood, a double top of Spruce/Nomex/Cedar, an elevated fingerboard and Humphrey style side sound ports. It is a great classical guitar, but those considering crossover instruments should check it out too. The neck is so comfortable it makes this an easy nylon string for steel string players to navigate as well. The nut is 51mm and the neck profile is slim and easy to play.

Here we have a lovingly kept 1976 Sakurai Model 5 classical guitar. Sakurai, in case you don’t know, is the nephew of the famous Masaru Kohno and currently makes Kohno and Sakurai guitars. Though wonderful aged for more than 30 years, this guitar looks nearly new. The Indian Rosewood and Cedar body produce a rich, traditional voice with that trademark Sakurai power and precision. The treble strings are very clear, focused and powerful. The playability is superb and it’s easy to pull a variety of colors and dynamics from this wonderful Sakurai guitar.

The Dream Guitars team, visited PRS last spring and along with Paul Reed Smith, hand selected all of the stunning tone woods for this Private Stock Angelus. What that means, is the instruments we are having made are of unsurpassed beauty and tone. In addition we have special ordered our guitars with a full 1 3/4″ nut and 2 1/4″ string spacing.
For this wonderful PRS Angelus, we chose a perfect Alaskan Yellow Cedar top and paired it with a sublime set of Cocobolo Rosewood. The goal was to create a GC with power but also warmth and character. I’m happy to say we succeeded. This guitar is amazing. You can strum it and it delivers a full and shimmering tone. But played fingerstyle there are meaty trebles that combine power and beauty so you can pull great emotion from this guitar. Our goal with our PRS Private Stock instruments is to offer the very best that PRS can produce and they are delivering!

We, along with Paul Reed Smith himself, hand tapped and selected the tonewoods. What that means, is the instruments we are having made are of unsurpassed beauty and tone. Paul Smith recommended the Black Peruvian Mahogany neck for it’s density and he was right. The sustain is wonderful. The set of Cocobolo Rosewood is the very best in the PRS wood locker as is the European Spruce top. In addition we have special ordered our guitars with a full 1 3/4″ nut and 2 1/4″ string spacing.
Players looking for an instrument that can do it all need look no further. The PRS Private Stock Guitars have the right amount of sensitivity for fingerpicking, and immense headroom so you can really dig in with a pick too. Here is a wonderful custom Michael Bashkin Multiscale OM, Placencia. Crafted from absolutely stunning quilted Mahogany and Italian Spruce, this guitar is a eye-catcher. The side soundport, custom rosette and amber side markers that capture light, it’s got all the nice details you could want.
The voice is focused and dense. The trebles are full and round in attack. The bass is warm and full. This is not a strummer’s guitar, but fingerstylists will love the oboe like trebles. The multiscale is a subtle blend of 25″ and 25 1/2″ scales so it’s very accessible but will make drop D and DADGAD work as they should. The short treble scale makes for easy playability as well.

This 2006 Martin D-18 Authentic 1937, is a wonderful recreation of it’s esteemed 1937 namesake, the pre-war Martin D-18. Vintage Martin D-18s from the prewar era are coveted for their open and powerful voice. This Authentic is built to those exacting specs. This particular Martin D-18 Authentic has a wide grain Adirondack top that has amazing bass response and volume. This one has been outfitted with a Baggs M1 Active pickup, very handy for gigs in the modern world, but also easily removable. This one has the wider modern fingerboard dimension of 1 3/4″ nut and 2 1/4″ saddle and a chunky soft V neck carve. A real player’s delight!

Here’s a really special Goodall from 2000 feauturing superb flamed Koa bound in rare Purpleheart creating a sublime standout among Goodall Guitars. This model is the Goodall KJK, a jumbo with a big resonant voice. It has all the wonderful Goodall colors in the voice and gorgeous, crisp top end thanks to the Koa. The voice is powerful and bold but always clear and refined. The Koa on the top, back, sides and headplate is all premium, highly figured, the kind that is getting very rare today. Don’t miss this Goodall KJK guitar.
Sobell Model 2 7 String Brazilian/European
This may be the only Sobell 7 string ever made. We custom built it back in 2001 for one of our good customers. It features Stefan’s larger Model 2 body in deep, rich Brazilian and European Spruce, the only Spruce Stefan will build with. The 7th string can be employed numerous ways from simply adding a low B to Standard tuning or a low A or G to DADGAD. Of course the sky is the limit for other tunings as well. The tone is stellar, this is one of the finest sounding Sobell guitars we’ve sold, period. It’s full and strong with lots of body and character. It’s complete with a Highlander pickup and a Calton case. We love the musical doors that a 7 string opens up. Step through the door…

Charlie Hoffman has the experience of building 576 guitars to date. This one is #576, a gorgeous Hoffman SJ guitar in Cocobolo Rosewood and bearclaw Sitka Spruce. The knowledge and intuit that comes from years honing his craft is evident in his instruments. For instance, just look at the materials, he clearly knows how to select premium woods, Cocobolo with stunning grain and color, Flamed Koa for the bindings with deep figure and dark. His also developed wonderful details like the Koa Armrest Bevel here. But his voicing is what we love, there is a purity of note, a wonderful percision that allows the music to be heard as it’s intended. The sound is natural and uncluttered, just emotion from steel and wood.

This David Myka Classic Jr. electric guitar has a dark side. Dark, rich Walnut and Ebony that is… The top is Claro Walnut with lovely figure and it’s enhanced by the custom made Ebony pickup rings, knobs, bindings and tailpiece. This is echoed again in the Walnut headplate bound in Ebony. The neck is solid Indian Rosewood with a smooth satin feel. A pair of Lollar Imperials are wired with a 5-way that offers Neck, Neck and Bridge in Parallel, then in Series, then Out of Phase and then the Bridge by itself. Separate 3-way mini toggles allow you to make either pickup Series, Single Coil or Parallel as well. A world of tones at your fingertips and a guitar everyone will envy.

Here we have a David Myka Classic Electric solidbody that is simply stunning. Hand crafted from White Limba with a 3 dimensional Flamed Maple Top enriched by it’s deep Cherry Burst finish. The neck and body join seemlessly making it a joy to play every fret. A pair of Marc Culbertson Gibbons style hotter PAF pickups are the engine for this tone machine. David Myka wired them with a five-way switch and 3 push/pull pots for series and parrallel signal paths. In addition there is a mini 3-way to select the magnetic pickups, the Piezo or both. Another mini acts as a blower switch for the bridge pickup allowing you to quickly go to a lead setting at full volume. So from clean to crunch to scream to acoustic, this is one versatile tone machine from David Myka.

Exotic Lacewood is the theme of this wonderful Classic Jr. from David Myka Guitars. The top, headplate and backplate are highly figured Lacewood beautifully accented by a Cocobolo Fingerboard and knobs. Flamed Maple bindings and handmade pickup covers tie it all together. Three Dimarzio P-90 pickups, a ToneZone Bridge, DLX-90 Neck in the Middle and Virtual P-90 Neck, are wired for serious versatility. A 5-Way switch allows for Neck/InnerCoils/Neck & Bridge/Outer Coils/Bridge. On top of that a push/pull Tone pot offers Series/Parallel. A mini 3-Way effects the Middle Pickup with Series/Single Coil/Parallel. But there’s more, another mini 3-Way allows manipulation of the Middle pickup, Adds Middle to 5-Way Output/Middle Only/Bypass Middle. So you can imagine the tonal variations from full-on P-90 power to single coils and combinations of the three pickups not usually possible. This 17″ “Bop” Archtop from Victor Baker has a big acoustic voice that is deep and alive, plugged in you get an accurate recreation thanks to the Kent Armstrong handmade humbucker. Volume and tone as well a Delta Series Gotoh tuners with a 21:1 ratio make this a sincere musician’s tool for gigging or woodshedding.
