2002 Nickerson D-55 Indian/Bearclaw
Here’s a very pretty dreadnought from Brad Nickerson featuring a rare Bearclaw top with 3 dimensional figure. Combined with a Brazilian Bridge, brown pickguard and double abalone rosette, the look is very unique and sublime. The voice is excellent for singer/songwriter and accompaniament work. This is a dread you don’t have to hit hard to get a full voice. This is a ton of quality at a terrific price. Good woods, nice attention to detail, great for fingerstyle, strumming, or flat picking… how can you go wrong?

Bryan Sutton is a friend of our shop and visits when he’s playing in town. He’s been here when we had one of these Banjo Killers that he inspired and it’s obvious he’s very proud of them. Dana Bourgeois delivers nicely here with a large guitar that sounds crisp and articulate (and never the least bit tubby). The figured mahogany sides and back deliver some punch and warmth, and the silky Sitka Spruce offers up just enough sparkle and shine. This is a rare guitar as they made only a few. She’s extremely playable and always great fun to pick up.

Kevin Chubbuck is a new name in the custom guitar world, but he comes to us with wonderful experience garnered at Santa Cruz Guitars and at Bill Tippin Guitars, where he still works with Bill crafting some of the finest guitars available today. One look at this Rouge Model OM and it’s easy to see the quality and high level of craftsmenship. But it’s the first few notes that really impressed us. Kevin is achieving a voice that is compelling and completely musical. The trebles are rich and full while the bass supports and remains clear. Together this is a very well balanced instrument versatile enough for a range of style. We are delighted to offer you the first of many Kevin Chubbuck guitars.

Maybe it’s the Italian Spruce speaking, maybe it’s Dake’s experience building highly sought after classical guitars… but this lovely dreadnought is really getting to me. Balance, nuance, warmth, articulation, crispness… it’s got it all. Dake Traphagen has miraculously straddled several categories with this rare find. She’s easily one of the best strummers in the shop — push as hard as you want and there’s not a hint of harshness. Dig in all the way up the neck and there’s not one note that doesn’t ring true. Drop the pick and go fingerstyle to be rewarded with warmth and woody overtones. This one is a real prize.

Brian Applegate presented this guitar at the Newport/Miami Guitar Festival. It caught our eye immediately with it’s enticing Myrtlewood body full of golden tan and brown colors. It’s topped with Engelmann Spruce prized by luthiers for it’s rich, warm tone. The headstock is adorned with striking Amboyna and the etched tie block is beautiful cut from bone. Brian makes some of the prettiest rosettes around and this one features interlacing bloodwood diamonds set into the Spruce top. The combination of Myrtlewood and Engelmann Spruce makes for a lush, full voice with great projection. This is a loud guitar with very lyrical trebles that just long to carry the melody. It has 50mm nut and slimmer neck profile that will appeal to players of many nylon styles. This is a superb Concert Guitar from Brian Applegate.

This very Ryan used to belong to our own Al Petteway, Grammy Winning guitarist and the artist you hear recording most of our sound clips. In fact he recorded it on his famous ‘Shades of Blue’ record. Needless to say it is an OUTSTANDING RYAN GUITAR. They don’t come any better for materials, tone and downright mojo. Years at Al’s fingertips would make any guitar sound great, but a Brazilian/Cedar Ryan with top notch woods, Abalone upgrades, pickup and Calton case…. lookout!
