2012 PRS Tony McManus Private Stock, Cocobolo Rosewood/European Spruce
If Tony puts his name on it, it’s got our vote. This 2012 PRS Tony McManus Signature Private Stock is a well balanced, well oiled machine–clean and smooth across the registers, set up for both fingerstyle and flatpicks, and appointed with gorgeous Abalone birds and trim. Back and sides are Cocobolo Rosewood, with a European Spruce top and 25.25″ scale; plenty of tension for DADGAD, but still easy on the hands.

Brand New Forster 10 String Guitar Bouzouki, Bubinga/European Spruce
Nigel Forster packs more into his instruments than you can shake a pick at. Here we’ve landed a brand new Guitar Bouzouki from him that is set up for extended range, playability, and power. Sweetly figured Bubinga back and sides pair with a European Spruce top that’s been engineered in the Howe Orme cylinder style–meaning the center section of top is cylindrically arched. The result is a very stiff top at about 40% the usual mass, and lighter makes louder in this case. Add to that the extended range afforded to a course of low C on the bottom of the 10 string setup, and you have an instrument for just about every application. Nigel further enhanced playability with a cutaway, subtle arm bevel, EVO frets, and a zero fret nut.

This 0 Custom from Dana Bourgeois and co is quick, snappy, and full of energy. They spec’d this petite powerhouse out for the 2012 Summer NAMM show with a rich set of Madagascar Rosewood for the back and sides, Adirondack Spruce on top, and herringbone trim plus Ivoroid bindings for a classic look. The satin neck feels smooth and familiar in hand, and this beauty has been well preserved and is like new.

2013 Bourgeois Soloist OMC, African Blackwood/German Spruce
Balance, power, and a crisp response makes for an expressive and punchy player that works for just about everything–this 2013 Bourgeois OMC Soloist is a knockout. This beauty is in exellent condition, and frankly it’s itching to be played. African Blackwood back and sides pairs up with German Spruce for a snappy top end and rich bass; venetian cutaway grants extra access to those topmost frets; pyramid bridge and squared off headstock a nod to the American classic flattop ideal.

2016 Henderson D-45, Brazilian Rosewood/Adirondack Spruce
If you are a follower of Wayne Henderson guitars you know that they are all rare, wonderful, and highly sought after. What we have here is the rarest of Hendersons, a D-45 Deluxe Tree Of Life in Brazilian Rosewood and Red Spruce which comes to us from 2016. You are certain to gasp and drool over this one, we certainly have been. Wayne makes precious few of this model of guitar, the sheer amount of time, material and skill that goes into building such a guitar is impressive, and certainly limits the opportunity to make many of them. 2012 Breedlove Master Class King Koa, Koa/Red Cedar
Here we’ve landed a gorgeous Master Class King Koa model from Jayson Bowerman and Breedlove Guitars that is dressed to the nines in said premium Koa, paired with Cedar on top, and outfitted with sharp-looking Bloodwood bindings and an intricate mermaid-and-dolphin inlay scheme across the fingerboard. Satin neck feels effortless in hand (and avoids those lefthand squeaks when changing positions), especially with a slinky setup. Our 2001 Dudenbostel Style-5 D is beautiful, plain and simple. 45-style appointments executed in fine style (so many miters), cream-of-the-crop Brazilian Rosewood and Adirondack Spruce, and a rich and engrossing voice—beautiful pretty much sums it up.
Lynn Dudenbostel coaxes a lot of warm, dynamic tones out of his bass response, and here pairs that with crisp mids and trebles for a swift attack and projection. The voice shoots out and away from the soundhole very quickly, giving this Dreadnought a clean projection that cuts well through the mix. 1996 Olson SJ, Indian Rosewood/Cedar
This SJ comes to us as a well preserved example of Jim Olson’s handiwork from the 1990s. A build date right in the middle at 1995 puts this beauty at 29 years young today, and it’s still going strong and ready for action. Indian Rosewood body with Cedar top, and both have been trimmed out with addtional purflings and Abalone for a striking, outstanding aesthetic. You’ll find an intricate series of fleur-de-lis position markers and at the bridge wings extend the pearl motif; ditto for the headplate trim. The end result is a dressed-to-the-nines ’95 Olson SJ.

2011 Olson SJ, Brazilian Rosewood/Cedar
A sumptuous feast is this 2011 Olson SJ. Chocolate-dark Brazilian Rosewood, rich Red Cedar top, and aodrned from head to tail with extensive and well-executed Abalone inlays. The fingerboard is replete with a tree of life vine; the headstock and top are trimmed out; and the rosette ties together Brazilian Rosewood with Abalone at its center. This beauty has been well cared for and is in excellent shape. A masterstroke from the man himself, Jim Olson.

2016 Pre-War Guitar Co. J Model, Mahogany/Adirondack Spruce
Wide open, singing all the way to the back of the music hall, and looking the part of the road worn and road tested. This 2016 Slope Shoulder from the Pre-War Guitar Co. is exciting, easy to play, and just plain old fun. Mahogany back and sides with Torrefied Adirondack Spruce top, nitro finish, and a level three distress job to make it look the part of a proper vintage piece–add a round C neck and slim weight (under four pounds), and you’ve got a livewire itching to go.

2014 PRS Tonare Grande, The Tree Mahogany/Adirondack Spruce
There’s Private Stock, and then there’s Private Stock. This 2014 Tonare Grande is what happens when all the stops are pulled. The Tree Mahogany body with Red Spruce on top for starters, and then the Private Stock team outfitted it with a tree of life and celtic knot motif in premium materials ranging from 14K gold to several species of Abalone and even Red Coral. The result is perfectly balanced against such gorgeous tonewoods for an awe-inspiring viewing experience. On the acoustic front, this PRS has a unique blend of warmth in the mids and dry, quick trebles that really sings out when you lean in with a more aggressive attack. PRS’s proprietary PRS Acoustic Pickup System carries all that faithfully onto the stage.

2018 Circa OM, Madagascar Rosewood/German Spruce
Now that’s what we call an OM. This 2018 flattop from John Slobod of Circa Guitars is a delight to both your ears and your hands, with a slightly full neck profile that feels instantly familiar and a responsive, articulate voice plus lots of dynamic range for a host of different attacks and colors. Very tight grain on the Madagascar Rosewood body, plus German Spruce on top; Rosewood bindings and a segmented rosette plus EVO frets offer an understated aesthetic. John lets the quality of the woods speak for themselves; ditto for the classic curves of the OM body. If you can think of it, this Circa OM can do it.

1997 Olson SJ Cutaway, Indian Rosewood/Cedar
Mid-to-late 90s Olsons all have an extra expressive quality, and this 1997 SJ Cutaway is no exception. It’s been played in and opened up too, and is wide awake and singing today! Indian Rosewood body with Cedar top, micro herringbone trim plus MOP dove inlays. An installed L.R. Baggs Anthem pickup system, plus Calton flight case, are added bonuses. Additionally, this 97 Olson has been upfitted with modern Gotoh 510 tuners for added tuning ease. The original Schallers are included in the case.
