Description

Straight from Michel Pellerin's shop in Quebec, Canada to the Santa Barbara show in California, then finally here to Dream Guitars, this brand new 2016 Prestige Premium Jumbo has had quite the journey. And, like any seasoned traveller, this Pellerin Jumbo has some stories to tell with its immense, sonorous voice. Paul hand picked this Bird's-Eye-Maple-and-Engemann-Spruce beauty at Santa Barbara after only a few minutes' playing.

Michel's eye for detail is hawk-like in its precision: the art deco sunburst ties together Engelmann Spruce, Bird's Eye Maple, Wenge, and Indian Rosewood for an elegant, high-gloss polyurethane package. The bass strings add an intense splash of depth to this Jumbo's voice, with fat and colorful tones that hang in the air for long seconds. Lowered into DADGAD and beyond, this Pellerin maintains an excellent string-to-string balance that worked beautifully for flatpicks, but was delicate enough to allow fingerstyle passages to shine as well.

This is the first Pellerin we've had in the shop, and already we're excited for the next one!

Some Jumbo guitars are all bass and no trebles, but Michael has managed to avoid that completely here. I'm sure his double X Somogyi-esque bracing patterns have something to do with that--and the result is a guitar which is big and bold in every sense of the word, but plays and sings with an easy intimacy.

Giant sound from a gorgeous guitar. I had never played one of these before and I'm truly impressed. It feels great too.
