Description

This is a stunning Somogyi 1980 Modified Dreadnought in East Indian Rosewood and Sitka Spruce. It's remarkable to play this guitar and hear firsthand the fingerstyle voicing that Ervin Somogyi was so critical in developing in the early years when steel string guitars were first recorded solo. Tonally, this guitar has a rich, expressive middle register and a low-end with presence and warmth. With three decades of play time to open up the Sitka Spruce top, this guitar has smooth action and fearsome projection. All the warmth and richness that Ervin is so well known for? This guitar has in spades. This guitar is a great piece of Luthier history, the serial number is 62, and the label is from the Berkley shop. This is a rare guitar just waiting for someone to love it for another 30 years!

This is the oldest Somogyi I have ever played as well. It feels like you are holding a piece of history. The tone is great for fingerpicking, even flatpicking sounds nice on this one.

This is one of the oldest Somogyi guitars I've played it has lots of character and a particularly wide and flat profile to the neck which should appeal to fingerstylists and classical players.
