Here we have a 2014 Thorell Archtop in Curly Maple and Adirondack (Red) Spruce. This is a well built and enjoyable guitar in every respect. Playability is fast and smooth up and down the neck, while the body shape is extremely comfortable to hold standing up or sitting down. The real meat of this guitar lies in the tone, it is punchy through the mids and trebles with great sustain, with a nice and round bass presence, which is a refreshing surprise for an archtop. This is a beautiful instrument to look at, listen to and play. Your Jazz licks have never sounded so good!
This has to be one of the most aesthetically pleasing archtop guitar designs I have seen in recent memory. I really like the similar color tone between the Maple and the Spruce. The tone of this instrument falls right inline with I consider to be a good archtop guitar, plenty of punch and projection with a good amount of headroom should you need it.
This was my first experience with a Thorell guitar and I was very impressed. The plugged-in sound is a nice balance between acoustic and electric and the playability is excellent. Even though I'm not a Jazz player, I was really tempted by this one.
