Description

It's a guitar! It's a mandolin! No, wait, it's an octave 12-string! This little Myrtlewood and Sitka Spruce mini 12-string by Joe Viellette is called the Merlin and it really does have some magic about it. It's delightfully designed for those guitar players who enjoy the shimmer of a mandolin but like to stick to the instrument they know and love. You can tune it as you would any guitar, just an octave up and with a few more strings. This beautiful instrument is great for strumming and accompaniment, but it is also great for new interpretations of your favorite songs (the unison double voice of each string adds a choral depth that is quite enchanting). It even comes with its own built-in D-Tar Wavelength preamp. What could be better than that?

I have loved getting to noodle around on this new mini 12-string. Joe has found a way to put a mandolin's sound and tone into a guitar player's setup. It's super comfortable to play and because it's in standard tuning there's no need to learn a new instrument. Just pick it up and let 'er rip!

Joe Veillette has come up with the ultimate octave 12-string guitar. It plays just like a guitar, but it's tuned an octave higher. It ends up in the range of a mandolin and can sound like an autoharp. The doubled strings give it a unique quality that will be perfect for adding a sparkling texture to a recording or in an ensemble setting.
