Brand New Morrissey SJ, Madagascar Rosewood/Swiss Moonspruce
We’re so excited to be working with Patrick Morrissey of Morrissey Guitars, and this brand new SJ is just the first of a series of builds we commissioned from Patrick. Chocolate rich Madagascar Rosewood pairs with Swiss Moonspruce on top, plus arm bevel, soundport, and florentine cutaway for all the modern playability. Further, we upgraded this beauty with a Brazilian Rosewood fingerboard and bridge to make that Swiss Spruce pop. At the rosette you’ll find a geometric motif, and Abalone diamond position markers along the fingerboard.

Kevin Caton’s Carolina model packs a wallop. With a 16 inch lower bout, this Carolina has lots of real estate for tone generation, which the Macassar Ebony body and Carpathian Spruce top take immediate advantage of. Great headroom allows for a heavier attack, with a strong fundamental in the bass register and some sparkling overtones on the top end. Kevin’s asymmetrical upper bout design allows for easy fingerboard access without compromising the amount of air the body can move, and looks fresh and modern to boot. When you factor in the geometric motifs at the endgraft, rosette, heelcap, and headplate, this Caton Carolina stands out from the crowd in all the right ways.

Kevin Ryan’s Signature Series guitars pull out all the stops, come with Kevin’s best tonewoods, and are appointed as heirloom instruments. This 2008 Mission Grand Concert SS has gorgeous, dramatically figured Brazilian Rosewood back and sides, paired up with a stiff Adirondack Spruce top for added power and projection, plus Kevin’s trademark slim neck profile and slinky playability. The voice is very round, with great dynamic range for a wide range of styles and attacks. The MGC body fits the midsize niche perfectly, making this a flattop that holds up well for both fingertips and flatpicks. The top, headplate, fingerboard, and rosette are upgraded with Select Blue Paua Abalone throughout, and at the nut, saddle, and bridge pins you’ll find Fossilized Walrus Ivory. Under the hood, this Ryan Signature Series is equipped with an L.R. Baggs iBeam pickup system, and outside this signature beauty is wrapped up in a custom Calton flight case.

The sweets of time, good wood, and a master’s touch. This Traugott BK comes to us from 1998 and has opened up handsomely, the result of which is a set of Brazilian Rosewood and German Spruce that are responsive to a T and built with a wide dynamic range for a variety of attacks and styles. Jeff’s BK body is a generous 16 inches across the lower bout, adding power and bass response to his trademark well-balanced sound. The Brazilian Rosewood is really something else: rich red hues throughout, very straight-grained and quarter sawn–and such a tightly grained German Spruce top! Jeff’s wood game has always been a cut above the rest, and this 1998 BK is proof of that.

2019 McIlroy A69c Custom, All Koa
Whoever said Koa doesn’t have depth and power hasn’t played this A69c Custom McIlroy. Not only does this all-Koa guitar pack some serious heft into the voice with a quick and lively string energy, but it manages to do so while looking good at the same time. Sycamore bindings plus Abalone rosette, top trim, and position markers are an excellent complement to the figured Koa, and the pinless bridge ties it all together. Additionally, this A69c has the added distinction of being McIlroy’s 1200th guitar–no small feat. If you want lots of power in an easy-playing package, it’s hard to go wrong with this 2019 A69c.

2020 Pellerin Folk 000, Torrefied Birdseye Maple/Bearclaw Sitka Spruce
Michel Pellerin is in fine form with this 2020 Folk 000 Premium Sunburst. Quick string energy, great headroom (especially for a slim 000), and a glassy setup makes for an engaging and exciting playing experience. Pellerin opted for finely figured Birdseye Maple for the back and sides which has been torrefied–maybe that’s where some of the extra bass energy comes from, or perhaps it’s the active X-X-X bracing system he used for the back–and a Bearclaw Sitka Spruce top was the obvious choice to complement. This is all tied together with a sweet and subtle sunburst, Rosewood bindings, and gold EVO frets along the fingerboard.

French-Ukrainian builder Youri Soroka manages to make even relatively new builds sound open, airy, and wide awake. This 2021 Torres Model is no exception, dressed up with a dramtically figured, four-piece CSA Rosewood back, old growth Indian Rosewood sides, and creamy Spruce top. The voice is immediate and emotive, with a colorful bass response to pair up with quick and vibrant treble strings, plus a rich midrange in between. Build weight is very light–3lbs–and contributes to the experience of playing a living, breathing instrument as you feel the vibrations in your hands and your chest. The rosette features green purflings and a sheaf-of-wheat motif that sets off the amber color of the surrounding Spruce, just a bit of added color to make it pop. Rosewood bridge plus bone tieblock, as well as Rosewood bindings and gold Pagos tuners with Ebony buttons.

$7,280 Add to cartScale Length 25.6 in Nut Width 2.08 in String Spacing 2.218 in Woods Spruce, Rosewood - CSA 2017 Mountain Song Odalisque, Tiger Myrtle/Moonspruce
To sum up this brand new 2017 Mountain Song Odalisque from Ken Jones in a few words: rich dynamism, ringing clarity, finely honed and opened up. Commissioned by one of our longtime clients, Odalisque #023 has every feature under the sun short of multiple necks or a multiscale fingerboard. No, really: dual bevels for the player’s arm and ribs, upper bout soundport, Tiger Myrtle back and sides, French Polished Moonspruce top, and an impressive display of Larry Robinson’s gifts as an inlay artist in the form of a fresh perspective on the traditional Tree of Life fretboard inlay. First Ken designed the Tree, then Larry executed it in fine style with Tiger Myrtle, gold and white Mother-Of-Pearl, and silver resin at the centers of the blossoms.
Acoustically, this Odalisque offers haunting clarity and the kind of immediate response that’s usually only found on completely opened up vintage instruments. The treble strings possess a bell-like color, and exhibit a delicious bloom after the initial attack which really fleshes out the sustain. Dropped tunings are bread and butter for this Odalisque; the bass fundamental is well-defined and really pops even when dropped down to C tunings. Frankly, it’s just a pleasure to play this guitar! From the Brazilian Rosewood bridge plate to the span of Robinson’s inlays across the fretboard, this Odalisque from Ken Jones is a study of lutherie’s finest points: resonance, response, and beauty.
