1980 Kohno 30 Brazilian/Spruce
Masaru Kohno is a legend among the classical guitar community. He was known for building guitars with a clear and powerful voice and superb playability. It’s little wonder artists such as Julian Bream, Oscar Gighlia and Sharon Isbin played Kohno guitars. This Model 30 Kohno is another exceptionally playable classical guitar built by the Master. This instrument has great projection and round tones courtesy of the Brazilian Rosewood back and sides and Spruce top. The playability of this Kohno is wonderful over the entire fingerboard. This Model 30 has a signed label as well.

Another stellar guitar from Masaru Kohno. This instrument was completed not long after Masaru’s Gold Medal win at the International Guitar Building Competition in Belgium in 1967. The Rosewood back and sides and Spruce top–along with Masaru’s impeccable craftsmanship–make for a guitar with loud, robust tones and perfect playability. As if that wasn’t enough, this instrument is in excellent condition for being over 40 years old and only shows light play wear. Tonally, this guitar offers amazing tone at an easy price point.

Here is a a rare and historic early Kono No. 3 Model guitar crafted in 1964. At this point Masaru Kohno did not use the ‘h’ in Kohno. This vintage Kono guitar features Rosewood and Spruce for that crisp, robust tone that professionals have come to expect from Masaru’s instruments. The super playable, smooth action on the Rosewood fretboard and 51mm nut makes this early Kohno extremely playable. A testament to the quality of Kohno guitars is how well this one has stood the test of time. Nearly 50 years old and still plays perfectly with plenty of remaining saddle. This is a wonderful collectible Kono from the first years of Master Masaru Kohno’s illustrious career.

This incredible Kohno No. 20 features the classic combination of Brazilian Rosewood back and sides and Spruce top along with Masaru’s amazing craftsmanship on the neck. This combination yields a guitar with authentic, pristine classical tones and one of the most playable necks in the business. The nut width here is 50mm so it will appeal to the player seeking a slightly narrower neck. This Model 20 Kohno is a gem with a big voice, powerful bass and singing trebles. The label is not signed, but just listen to the recording, this is a great one.

Legendary Masaru Kohno began building guitars in the late 1940’s. In the 1960’s he traveled to Madrid and studied at the workshop of Arcangel Fernandez. Within a few short years he was awarded the Gold Medal in Elizabeth’s Concourse Belgium, international competition in guitar lutherie.
This wonderful Kohno Special was made in 1996 and it has a marvelous deep voice. The Special model is one of the highest level models Masaru Kohno offered. This one with it’s Rosewood and Spruce body offers bass that is strong and clear and the trebles that are warm and round. An excellent instrument that easily handles a diverse repertoire. It’s obvious from the play wear that this guitar was played a bunch, a great sign that it’s owner loved it and you will too. Label is signed by Masaru Kohno.

Wow. An incredible guitar from Jeronimo Pena Fernandez. The tone of this guitar is unbelievable! Warm and loud with great mid content. The notes are very full and rich. This instrument features a Brazilian Rosewood back and sides and Cedar top. The Brazilian Rosewood headplate is exquisitely carved with Fernandez’ trademark touch, as is the Bridge. The Cedar neck (with Ebony back strip) plays fast and smooth with great comfortable action, but it’s the incredible sound of this guitar is what makes it most breathtaking.

A great Flamenco guitar from Spanish Luthier Jeronimo Pena Fernandez. This is a great playing instrument with classic Flamenco tone thanks to the Cypress back and sides and Spruce top. This ’85 Contreras double-top, signed by Manual Contreras, is a remarkable sounding guitar. It has extremely strong lower-mids and powerful projection from the Brazilian Rosewood back and sides and Cedar top. The sustain is exceptional as well, and the entire guitar is full and warm yet wonderfully articulate. A very fine example of a Contreras double-top!

The tone is wonderfully vintage, rich and smokey with great chop and power. Single note lines ring out and cut beautifully.
