2007 Forster C Brazilian/German
This 2007 Forster C in Brazilian Rosewood and German Spruce is one of the funnest guitars to play we have seen in a while. The offset soundhole might make us guitar nerds do a double take, but it is incredible how enveloping the sound is for the player. It is a different experience from the side soundport: the offset soundhole gives a truer representation of the whole tone of the guitar, rsulting in an exapansive voice with throaty projection. Nigel’s work is largely influenced by his time spent with legendary Luthier Stefan Sobell, and the heavily arched plates are a key feature of both builders’ work. If you are looking for bold bass and bright singing trebles, this guitar will make your heart sing.

John ‘J.S.’ Bogdanovich is a great friend of ours and as it happens a premiere luthier of classical guitars, and the author of “Classic Guitar Making: A Modern Approach To Traditional Design”. This is a rare steel string crafted by John from highly figured Flame Maple that he had in his private stash. John topped it with Engelmann Spruce which adds a nice warmth to compliment the power of the Maple. And boy is it powerful, very responsive and lively. This is a strong guitar that excels at fingerstyle and can span genres from blues to rags to celtic and traditional. A great one…

This amazing Custom Tippin Crescendo Multiscale was originally custom built for us by Master Luthier Bill Tippin. Old Growth Brazilian, Moon Spruce and a 25.5-26.25 multiscale were chosen to make this a super versatile guitar, this one can do it all! The multiscale insures that the Bass will never get weak and the Trebles will always sing! Bill added an Armrest Bevel and stunning Flamed Koa Bindings along with his elegant Sparkle MOP top trim and exquisite Yin-Yang inlay at the 12th fret. This guitar is inspiring in everyway and that’s what it’s all about. Here’s a great video of Loren Barrigar and Mark Mazengarb that features this Tippin guitar.
We loved this one so much that we teamed up with Al Petteway and recorded it on our latest album: Dream Guitars Volume II Hand Picked. It is Track #16 – The South Wind.

We are extremely pleased to bring you this incredible custom ordered Mountain Song Odalisque in Tasmanian Tiger Myrtle and Alpine Spruce. We have known Ken for a long time, he has worked with us here at the shop behind the scenes for years, and has grown to be a truly great friend, Luthier, and repairman. We count on Ken. Ken’s evolution as a guitar builder has been a great joy to watch, he was building great guitars when we first met him, certainly, but now he is building a different kind of beast altogether. So good in fact that Dream guitars owner Paul Heumiller decided he even needed a Mountain song guitar for himself! This Odalisque represents everything we like to see in a custom built guitar, Incredible tone and playability of course and a great synthesis between builder and client. Ken and his client thought the Tiger Myrtle looked unusually like a Tasmanian Tigers pelt. They decided to run with that idea and included some great inlays of Tiger paws on the fingerboard and a Tasmanian Tiger on the head stock.
Now lets get to fun part, the tone. This Odalisque has trebles that will melt butter, they are powerful and warm without any shrillness, while the bass through mids are expertly balanced like few builders are able to achieve. This instrument is a wonder, we are sad that we didn’t get to keep around the shop a while longer! Without question Ken Jones is one of the up and coming “Big Boys” in the Luthiery community, keep both eyes on Mountain Song guitars, we sure are.

Here we have a Bourgeois “The Soloist” OMC in Brazilian Rosewood and Torrefied Aged Tone Adirondack (Red) Spruce. Bourgeois guitars command attention and respect throughout the entire acoustic guitar world, they are known for their quality of build and wonderful, lush tone. Torrefication is a new development in the luthiery community. It is the process of baking tonewoods in a low oxygen environment, rendering the woods to a truly “aged” effect, both sonically and visually. Add to that the fact that this one is made with all hide glue construction and a top-of-the-line varnish finish and you have an instrument that will blow you away.
Upon first playing this guitar something is instantly recognizable as being different: The tone is full and unbridled, there is seemingly nothing to get in the way of the pure tone of the woods. Simply put, this guitar sounds like a well broken in, decades old instrument. And while you may want to chalk all of this great tone up to the Torrefied topwood, we are inclined to say it is a whole recipe that gives this guitar its magical voice. And that recipe is as follows: 1. Expert construction from a master builder. 2. Superb quality woods. 3. Torrefication. 4. A thin Varnish finish. 5. Well thought out and beautiful design. Season to taste and bake at 350 for a perfect all around guitar.

“I’m proud to have planted a seed with Joe Veillette to make a Terz instrument, and to see it come to fruition here is just wonderful. I’ve long been a fan of Terz guitars as I’m a songwriter and find inspiration in instruments with a unique voice. Tuned low, like a Baritone, or tuned high, like Joe’s Gryphon or this Terzilla, you are instantly inspired to do something new and that’s a powerful thing.” – Paul Heumiller
From the Veillette website: “The Veillette Terz 12 is a powerful and intriguing hybrid of many different concepts. Tuned up to the player’s choice of G or A, and strung with unison pairs, the Terz 12 blends the full, wide sound of a 12-string guitar with the clean shimmer of a mandolin or bouzouki thanks to the Mahogany back and sides and Sitka Spruce top. The sound of the higher tuning and shorter scale (21 7/8″) is powerful and complex – bursting with harmonics and ‘cut’, and perfect for layering over other guitars, doubling, or accompanying singers or instruments with a naturally higher range. With its fast, tight, and defined lower register and thick natural chorus, the Terz 12 also excels for solo fingerstyle playing, particularly for the adventurous guitarist seeking something beyond just another standard 6-string. “

Ren Ferguson has built up a reputation over at Gibson that rivals that of the late, great Lloyd Loar. In 1992 Ren began hand making incredible Master Museum model instruments that receive higher and higher praises with each passing year.
Ren’s artistry and handiwork is evident in every aspect of the build. The Rococo stylings of the piece are seen in the ornately relief carved Sitka Spruce top and master grade Flamed Maple back, as well as the feather plume heel design and hand cut inlay adorning the fingerboard and headstock. This collector piece has excellent, dry sustain and thickness to the voice that make it one you’ll want to play just as much as look at. It is truly a singing work of art.

Here we have a real sweet heart from the Santa Cruz Guitar Co. This is a 1988 Tony Rice model in Master grade East Indian Rosewood and Adirondack (Red) Spruce. There is one thing instantly recognizable about the Tony Rice model, the enlarged soundhole, it is a feature lifted directly from Tonys own unique Martin guitar. We find the large soundhole helps to even out the tonal palette from bass to trebles, the bass is more controlled and even, while the trebles gain more power and punch. Another nice feature on this guitar is the low profile “V” neck which makes playing scorching fast licks a breeze!

Old instruments have a vibe to them that can’t be quenched. They have seen the years and miles pass before them and continued playing, strong as ever, into the modern era. And in the case of this Gibson LG-1, we are particularly glad that it made it into our hands. This ladder braced beauty has a beautiful burst finish that appears to have been oversprayed with a clear coat at some point in its past to preserve its integrity (and since has been played some more!). The Mahogany and Spruce pair perfectly for a boxy, bluesy sound. Try a fingerstyle blues, slide, or ragtime piece on this guitar and you’ll be sold on it then and there! Come get it before Al does!

If we could have our way, we would have a Froggy Bottom guitar in every guitar players home. Froggies are that good, and they deserve it. This is the H-12 Deluxe model in East Indian Rosewoodback and side with a Sunburst Adirondack (Red) Spruce top. One fact that always astounds us about a Froggy Bottom guitar is just how much sound they are capable of putting out, even the small bodied models. Now, it is one thing to say a guitar is “Loud” many guitars can do that, but the true test is this; Can the guitar be loud and still have great tone? Across the board with every Froggy we have had, including this beauty, the answer is a resounding yes! As we expected, this H-12 packs a wallop, the bass is pure and buttery while the mids through the trebles are round and powerful balancing perfectly from one section to the next. Another stellar offering from one of our favorites.
