Marc Beneteau is known for his great baritone guitars with players like Don Ross and Dream Guitars owner Paul Heumiller playing them. They have amazing power, clarity and tons of tone. In fact Paul Heumiller provided the specs for this custom Baritone from Marc based on many he has played and enjoyed. First there is very rare Andaman Padauk for the body which always produces a clarity and presence that is sublime for the low baritone register. For the top Paul requested master grade Sitka for it’s power and overtones, this top is especially tight grained and silky. For versatility we made it a multiscale with a 28″ scale on the bass and 27″ on the treble. This setup allows for movement between many tunings and keeps the bass low and big while maintaining sweet and easy to play treble strings. To make it complete Paul added front and back BEVELS so it’s very comfortable and lovely touches such as the bound fingerboard with extension and the custom Spalted Elm Rosette. This is what we call a Baritone, an incredible Baritone!

Sold2007 Beneteau Nick Lucas Brazilian/Lutz
This Beneteau Nick Lucas is a great example of what this model was all about. In the 1920s and 30s Gibson created a 00 sized guitar with a 13 fret neck joint and a deeper body for some additional bass response to go with the powerful 00 voice. We believe Marc Beneteau’s modern version is one of the best as it embodies the spirit of the old Gibson but has even more clarity and character. This Brazilian beauty is topped with Lutz, which is a hybrid Spruce that combines Sitka and White Spruces. It’s a versatile top wood that opens up quickly. There is a side Soundport so you get an earful in the driver’s seat. This Bene NL is a powerhouse. The trebles command attention and the bass is controlled but energetic. Great guitar.

Here is a short scale powerhouse 000 from Canada’s Marc Beneteau. Figured Mahogany and Cedar pair up here for a quick responding small body guitar that is loud and has that wonderful Mahogany growl. Don’t stereotype the Cedar top here, modern builders have learned to leave it thicker and get bit power out of it. You can hit this one hard. Marc counts as clients Don Ross, Tony McManus and Craig D’Andrea so you know his instruments are worldclass.

From the late Lance McCollum comes this gorgeous and highly playable baritone with sides of rare Andaman Padauk and a top of Italian Spruce. This was Lance’s personal Baritone for quite a while and it is known quite well in guitar circles. It is the sister to Alex DeGrassi’s which also has Padauk from the same log. Andaman Padauk has been virtually wiped out due to storms that have hit that Island. So this is extremely rare wood. Lance was perhaps the most prolific of Baritone makers, having made nearly 40 of them. This one is beautifully appointed, with Lance’s personal logo, a custom laughing hyena on the headstock, snakewood bindings, and abalone top trim. An under-the-saddle pickup rounds out this lively, clear and rich Baritone.

Sold2007 Beneteau Nick Lucas Mahogany/Adirondack
Marc Beneteau’s Nick Lucas design is very popular. It harkens back to the 1920s and 30s Gibson model who’s namesake was a famous player of the day. One key part of the design is the 13 Fret neck joint that keeps the bridge in the wider portion of the lower bout but allows that one more fret to play in. This sunburst beauty is Adirondack over Mahogany with a short 24.9″ scale, lovely Maple bindings and a Spalted Maple rosette. The one modern touch, its side soundport, is a welcome upgrade that sounds great in the driver’s seat. The beauty you see is equalled by what you hear. This is a very strong and proud small body guitar with volume and energy to spare. Blues, Rag and Old Time player will flip over this one.
