This Klein M43 from 1997 offers a subtle glimpse into what Klein & Kauffman guitars are renowned for today. This variation features an offset soundhole, which creates an even more unique sonic soundscape with this instrument. Wielding it feels powerful; hearing it is moving, and looking at it encompasses both of those experiences. The Maple back and sides exhibit extreme chatoyance, reminiscent of looking into the bottom of a swimming pool in summer. The spruce top has aged just as finely in sound as it has in hue. This Leo Buendia Jumbo in East Indian Rosewood and Sitka spruce is phenomenal! The Sitka top is an incredible, 200-year-old set with insanely tight grain across its length. Leo was a Somogyi apprentice, and the tonal heritage is apparent. The whole sound pallet is full and lush from string to string each note is a pleasure to hear, it must be experienced, not just heard. Ethereal, mesmerizing, magical, all of these words don’t do this guitars justice. Hours spent playing this Buendia will just fly by, it is that engrossing. The craftsmanship is as good as we have seen just about anywhere. This is a guitar more than one person in this shop would love to keep for themselves!

A first for us here at the shop from Zach Lefebvre, a brand new TreeHouse Blue Ember. It’s rare to find such unique instruments, where form certainly follows function so well. A whole lot of tone, and even more character. The back and sides’ hue harkens back to custom Stratocasters of the late 50s and early 60s, with an incredibly visually pleasing stain on top. The single coil tone combined with its acoustic resonance makes for an intriguing and fantastic musical experience. Maple for the back and sides, Adirondack Spruce on top.

A rare treat for us today: a gorgeous 2016 000-42 from Asheville’s own EJ Henderson. Coming from the lineage of her father, Wayne Henderson, Jayne’s been building under her own name for a number of years, honing her craft and building up an impressive body of work–and wait list. Highly figured Black Walnut back and sides with dramatic rippling figure, Red Spruce top (plus dark sunburst), and extensive sparkling Abalone 42-style appointments along the body and position markers. Then we come to the bespoke catfish inlaid in great detail between the G and D tuners at the back of the headstock. Jayne’s inlay skill renders crisp lines and fluid curves, leaning on her eye to match the wavy pattern of each piece of pearl to mirror the scales of the fish. The voice on this 000 is quick and crisp, with a lively string energy that makes for a particularly exciting and enjoyable playing experience. Interested in learning more? Give us a shout!

The voice is powerful and expansive, and it really opens up after a few minutes’ playtime—this Ryan becomes a whole ‘nother beast.

Not only it’s astound Madagascar Rosewood for the back and sides, as well as its European Spruce for the top. The fit and finish, the intricate details; the Mokume gane features throughout.
