2008 Goodall Baritone East Indian/Sitka
Straight from the James Goodall workshop, we have a tremendous and unique addition to your guitar arsenal: a 2008 Baritone Jumbo in Sitka Spruce and East Indian Rosewood. This guitar is a beast–but in a more manageable package than one would expect from a Baritone guitar. The neck profile is deceptively slim and comfortable for the left hand, and the 28″ scale length gives the strings perfect tension for easy fretting. The upper register is fat and juicy–in a word, delicious. Goodall has bound this beauty in Koa, and this guitar comes with two saddles, one each for winter and summer, to compensate for the associated changes in temperature in humidity. So don’t worry! You can bust out sweet, funky riffs all year round. The fit and finish is clean and tight, and there are virtually no play marks or wear and tear anywhere. This guitar comes with an Ameritage hard case.

1994 Goodall GCC Brazilian/Sitka
There aren’t many guitars out there with woods like this one. James Goodall made this Grand Concert Cutaway to completely custom specifications in 1994 while he was living in Hawaii. For starters, the neck profile is slimmer than his other guitars, and is completed with a one-off Jazz, low profile heel, the combination of which makes the neck comfortable to navigate. Fretting notes becomes an almost intimate gesture. The back and sides come from a rare stock of tight, straight-grained Brazilian Rosewood, which is dark and somber in its coloring. Those colors are a nice contrast to the bright, lively tone which comes from the “Big Goose” Sitka Spruce top, which was sustainably harvested from naturally fallen lumber and has a saturated, vibrant color from patination. Moreover, Goodall used Fossilized Walrus for the nut and saddle–an uncommon, yet attractive detail with a clean resonance. All of these specialty woods come together in a tight, responsive package which lends itself to recording or vocal accompaniment, and is wonderful just to look at.

2007 Juan Miguel Gonzalez Flamenco Negra Brazilian/German
Here we have an exceptional 2007 Flamenco guitar by Luthier Juan Miguel Gonzalez. Built from Brazilian Rosewood and Spruce this Flamenco has a little more complexity of tone than its cypress-bodied brethren. the bass strings are stout and full while the mids through trebles are punchy, but still maintain a sweet tone. This Flamenco has been equipped with Fustero geared tuners, eliminating any fussing around with friction pegs, which is a welcome convenience in our book.

1995 Contreras II 1 Especial – India Indian/European
Here we have a 1995 Contreras II 1 Especial – India in European Spruce and East Indian Rosewood. This is a fine representation of the skill the Contreras family wields as guitar builders: everything from the tone, fit, and finish is wonderfully executed on this classical. The tone is the true star here, exactly as a great classical should sound, pure and warm, with great balance from the bass to treble. The East Indian Rosewood back and sides are finished with a perfectly smooth gloss and the guitar’s light weight sits comfortably in your lap. The elegant Rosewood bindings and Brazilian Rosewood headstock plate are definite eye candy, but they pale in comparison to the dark, moody lines of the East Indian Rosewood back and sides. This Contreras is at once a guitar to play for hours, and then to ogle when you’re not.

2009 Petros Tunnel 13 Claro Walnut/Redwood
You’ve simply got to see and hear this one! And you should call now, because she won’t be here long. This is Bruce Petros at the top of his game, having fun with a few different woods on one instrument. The Flamed Walnut alone would be worth the price of admission, but add a Redwood top and Butternut neck and away we go. The sound is big, warm, and toasty without losing any of the crispness you want in the highs. And you can play this baby as hard as you want and she won’t fret out or get floppy. Fingerstyle, strumming, single lines—whatever—this guitar is why we love this business. Here is the full story from the Petros Website: Southern Pacific Railroad’s Siskiyou Summit Tunnel 13 was built in the 1880’s using virgin Redwood timbers harvested in Southwestern Oregon. These timbers witnessed the October 11, 1923 hold up of the SP Train 13 Gold Special, pulling 13 cars, by the DeAutremont brothers. Four men were killed in the robbery attempt. When these magnificent Redwood timbers were salvaged from this historic tunnel after a fire in 2004, Petros Guitars managed to acquire some of the nicer sections. When these diamonds in the rough were opened up, it was discovered to be exceptional, master-grade tone wood, air dried in this tunnel for more than 120 years. Paired with light weight, figured Claro Walnut from Oregon and a light weight Butternut neck from Wisconsin, this guitar is light as a feather (3 pounds, 14 ounces) with the resonance of a 120 year old guitar. After a century of silence, Petros Tunnel 13 Redwood guitars are giving voice to the remarkable Redwood of Tunnel 13.

Here we a fantastically versatile 2005 Burguet ABF Mixta Cutaway in Madagascar Rosewood and Spruce. If you are in need of an instrument to play Flamenco or Classical music, we think this Burguet will take care of your needs handsomely. With slightly more sustain and complexity of tone than the standard Flamenco guitar and the comfortable cutaway we find this to be an excellent all around guitar. As a matter of fact every style of music we played on it, from Bossa Nova to Flamenco, sounded great.

New Circa Dreadnought Makore/Adirondack (Red)
Here we have a brand new Circa Dreadnought in Adirondack (Red) Spruce and Makore. John Slobod is the Brains and Luthier behind these exquisite Circa guitars. John has garnered quite a following among the pre war style guitar enthusiasts, pick one up and you will have no questions why. His guitars are light and responsive, just like the good old Martins. This Dreadnought will make any flatpicker proud with its open and loud voice. Single note leads just bark out of this thing, the people in the back will have no problem hearing you. John departed slightly from tradition by using Makore for the back and sides, apart from having beautiful figure, we find this would has a Rosewood like presence along with a mahogany like warmth.

2011 Charis SJ Mun Ebony/Alpine
This 2011 Charis SJ evokes a particular feeling when you play it, we personally felt like we were in the misty hills of Ireland, mysterious and beautiful. This guitar is entirely enchanting. The voice is warm and full, the bass is open but not over powering the sublime trebles. Made from the unusual combination of Alpine Spruce and Mun Ebony this SJ is as sure to stun with its looks as it is its sound.

2010 Glenn D. Canin Flamenco Negra Brazilian/Spruce
Glenn Canin is one of the most esteemed contemporary Flamenco and Classical luthiers in the USA. His guitars are played by the top Flamenco guitarists in America and abroad, including Jason McGuire and Chusclales to name a few. Here we have a Flamenco Negra guitar crafted out of stunning Brazilian Rosewood and straight-grained Spruce with Snakewood appointments.
Typical to the the Flamenco style, this guitar has a quick attack and decay. The voice is even across the board, making those upper register solos sound as rich and present as your first position rhythms. The projection and volume is huge! A great first impression for us. If you’re a Flamenco player (and we’re quite certain you must be, to be looking at this guitar), then you know just how ironclad is Glenn Canin’s reputation–and this Flamenco Negra proves it with resounding basses and lightning strike trebles. More, if you’re also inclined toward Classical this guitar performs beautifully, making it a best of both worlds kind of instrument.

2005 Gerundino Cypress/Spruce
This is a fantastic Gerundino Flamenca Blanca built and co-labeled by Juan Miguel Gonzalez, one of the elite contemporary makers of Flamenco guitars in Spain–and we believe the very last Gerundino guitar ever built! Juan Miguel Gonzalez‘ father was a well known Flamenco guitar maker in Almeria and was responsible for teaching both the late Gerundino and Gonzalez the art of Flamenco guitar luthiership.
Gonzalez had secretly been making a few guitars for Gerundino under his label, but when his own guitars became highly acclaimed, he focused on his own line. Paco Pena requested a set of two guitars from Gerundino (a Spruce and Cedar top) around 2005, knowing that Gerundino’s health was failing and it might be his last chance. Gonzalez was commissioned to make them. A dealer from Los Angeles was visiting at the time, and asked Gonzalez if he would make a duplicate set. For those two guitars–a Spruce top No.1 and a Cedar top No.2–Gonzalez added his label to Gerundino’s. To build them, Gonzalez used an amazing set of “Violeta” Spanish Cypress from his father’s original collection. The harmonics of this Flamenco Blanca are unbelievable–muy flamenco.

2006 Tippin Bravado Brazilian/German
This guitar is a smooth operator. From famed luthier Bill Tippin, this 2005 Bravado custom Jumbo in German Spruce and Brazilian Rosewood boasts the pianistic articulation that Tippin guitars are known for, coupled with a loud presence when played with aggressive attack. The Bravado still projects well with a lighter Fingerstyle approach, thanks to a masterfully proportioned German Spruce top. 2008 Traugott R Fan Fret Brazilian/German
Here we have a very special Traugott R multiscale in perfect Brazilian Rosewood and German Spruce. This particular Traugott has garnered some high praise by some incredibly talented musicians, our own Al Petteway has said it is the best Traugott he has ever played, Tony McManus had some choice words to say about it, Paul Heumiller himself even owned this one for a while, it is that good. This Model R sports some of the nicest woods that Jeff had in his collection, the Brazilian is dark with some nice ink lines, and the German Spruce is tight grained with lovely Bear Clawing inthe lwer bout. It’s Jeff’s voicing that has really put him on the map, and that voice is in force here, the trebles are fat and full with plenty of power and sustain, the multiscale (25.6″-27″) even out the rest from punchy mids to full thundering bass strings. This baby has it all!

2010 Collings DS2H BaaaA Brazilian/Adirondack (Red)
Collings guitars like this one are staples in the bluegrass world, where an aggressive attack rewards players with a bold, colorful sound for accompaniment or leads. The Adirondack Red Spruce lets this slope dreadnought belt it out, but this guitar resides most fondly in the middle registers. This guitar delivers everything you’d expect from that immaculate reputation: a crisp, balanced tone with a German Spruce top and sensuous, understated appointments. Incredibly sensitive to your touch, the richly figured and bookmatched Brazilian Rosewood back and sides underscore a tight response and sustain in Fingerstyle arrangements. It excels when played in Dropped Tunings like DADGAD, where the low-end really wakes up and balances nicely the bells in the upper register to create a lush, colorful sound without overpowering the highs.
