Chris Jenkins and his son Jeremy Jenkins walk to the beat of a different drummer and that’s a good thing. They create unique, funky and fun instruments with tons of vibe and style. This Saddle Pal parlor guitar is a great example. Christina Lavin and Todd Hallawell regularly use theirs and as Todd says “it must have a supercharger in it” because they have such a surprisingly strong voice for a small guitar. This particular Saddle Pal raises the bar with its Madagascar Rosewood and Redwood body, Maple neck and trim and incredible details including the elaborate headplate and abalone border on the fingerboard and top. The top itself is gorgeous Redwood with a Quilted Maple shoulder where the soundports reside, in addition there are two ports on the driver’s side for a full voice to the player. The Jenkins Saddle Pal also makes a great travel guitar as it’s only 38.5″ in length and features an adjustable action that can be modified under tension. Never be without a great guitar again!

Being high tuned this guitar offers up a wonderful chimey sound with a lot of drive and punch. It's a great color to add to a group or to your solo shows. Tony McManus recorded a Hoffman Terz on his Maker’s Mark: The Dream Guitars Sessions CD from 2009. It’s a magical voice.

Hiro Ebata spent several years in the shop of Ervin Somogyi at the same time as Michi Matsuda and Mario Beauregard. Three young makers that show the value of old world apprenticeship and how important study of the craft is. This J is perfectly crafted with lovely details including Madagascar Rosewood, European Spruce, bound and bordered fingerboard, multi-layered headplate and perflings around top, back and sides. Dake Traphagen has been building concert guitars for the likes of Scott Tennant and Pepe Romero for decades, but to our delight he now also makes steel string guitars. This Slope D is one we commissioned and we feel Dake’s version of this design offers a fresh and extremely versatile instrument. There is power and headroom to spare for full on flatpicking, but you also get a much richer and fuller tone than traditional dreads. Fingerpickers who like a big voice will love this one as well. The premium Brazilian Rosewood and Adirondack top that Dake selected are spectacular.

During a visit to the PRS factory, Paul Smith laid a handful of great guitars on a table, a vintage Tele, vintage Les Paul and one of these Private Stock ‘Violin Guitars’ of his. He struck the strings of the Tele and LP and then he grinned widely and plucked his Violin Guitar. It rang out twice as loud and sustained forever. The difference he explained is in the woods. First there is a Private Stock Maple top, harvested from where Stradivarius acquired his wood for his famous violins. Then comes a Pernambuco neck which is a very dense wood usually reserved for violin bows. On top of this they added the incredible 59/09 humbuckers and adorned it with Abalone Celtic Knot inlays and a rich violin inspired 28 Black Gold finish. This is the last one we know of available anywhere. It is brand new with full warranty. This is sure to be a classic and collectible PRS guitar.

This is the last Pogreba Resonator we’ll be getting from Larry Pogreba. He’s no longer going to make his wonderful Aluminum body creations that have been used by Bonnie Raitt, David Lindley and so many others. This cool instrument is anodized Gold and features a solid Brazilian Rosewood neck, the only one we’ve ever seen from Larry. The cone cover is a ’58 Oldsmobile hubcap. The tone is unique, full of mids with a rich reverb quality that is wonderful. Pogreba resos offer a ‘wet’ sound as compared to the drier National sound. Fingerstyle or slide this one does it all and with it’s own flair.
New Circa D-42 Brazilian/Engelmann
John Slobod and his Circa Guitars have become a hot commodity in the guitar world. Slews of pro players have purchased Circa guitars including our own Al Petteway, Steve Baughman, Tony McManus, Ed Dodson and many others. These players are the best in the world and they choose guitars for tone, playability, reliability and quality, in that order. John Slobod has all of that in every guitar. This ravishing D-42 Sunburst is a stunner. The abalone really shines against the deep, dark burst. The top is old Engelmann Spruce and while not a bluegrass cannon, Engelmann gives this box a wonderful warm strumming voice and a richness that will suit singer-songwriters, accompanists and fingerpickers perfectly.
