From Laurent Brondel, “The 28” from 2023, a 28-style OM with the classic combo of Brazilian Rosewood and Adirondack Spruce. It doesn’t get much better than this. These tonewoods, in this configuration, are the blueprint for modern fingerstyle guitar building. It’s what we expect and what we love about the medium. We’re all fans of John Slobod here at DG. His fit and finish is primo, and his voicing is clear, precise, and powerful. This is a great example of just how good you can get with classic Indian Rosewood and Spruce–already expansive and wide awake from 2020 and in gorgeous condition with herringbone trim on top à la 28-style, and a torch inlaid at the headstock with sparkling Abalone and flanked by nickel Waverly tuners. If you’re looking for a top tier 000 from one of the field’s finest, congrats! You’ve arrived.

Lynn Dudenbostel’s reputation is sterling, and for good reason: the man knows how to build ‘em right. This 2010 OM-28 is a fabulous specimen: loud and energetic, yet balanced, with slick playability all along the fretboard. Fit and finish are superb, with a great eye for detail at the miters and in the vine inlays across the fretboard. The tonewood front is the same: gorgeous woods, primo-primo quartersawn Brazilian Rosewood with Adirondack Spruce on top. A pyramid bridge and vintage-style gold Grover tuners complete the package, and this baby comes swaddled in a Calton flight case for maximum protection.

From 2001, we have a very rare and now iconic Taylor “Gallery Series Living Jewels” Dreadnought. It features Big Leaf Quilted Maple for the back and sides, and Bearclaw Spruce on top. Aside from its obvious beauty, this guitar is unique—#97 of 100. Not to be coy (pun intended), it’s also famous. This model has been used occasionally by the one and only Taylor Swift. The Gallery Series inlay art is based on the works of Pete Davies Jr., who worked at Taylor Guitars with his parents. The series had two other variations: one with sea turtles and another with Gray Whales. This particular Koi variety is the model Miss Swift is renowned for rocking out with. This guitar is ornate and intricately detailed. The chatoyant qualities of the timbers take on new meaning, considering the Koi fish inhabiting the fingerboard and rosette.

Mahogany neck with a soft V carve, nickel Waverly tuners, and Ivoroid bindings round out the image of a Bluegrass cannon.
