2008 Mustapick Baritone, All-Koa
Remember the expression, speak softly and carry a big stick? How about speak loudly and carry a big stick—cuz that’s what we’ve got here with this 2008 Mustapick Baritone. This fearsome force of nature boasts a 29 inch scale (takin’ it down to G town!), all-Koa construction, and an upper bout soundport to boot. It only weighs in at a little over five pounds; not bad for a Baritone that’s packing as much projection and power as this one. The neck and body balance out each other well, making this an easy-playing experience. If you’re ready to take the leap into Baritone territory, you can’t go wrong with this all-Koa Mustapick.

This Martin Custom 00 sunburst in Brazilian Rosewood and Red Spruce is going to be hard to beat for blues and ragtime music; it’s got that great bark and warmth which is just right for those styles of music. The frequencies are all even and controlled across the board on this guitar, so if you are a fingerpicker you’re in for a treat! Up and down the neck, tone and playability are even and consistent, just the way we like it. This Martin strays from the pack slightly with is beautiful sunburst, the kind of dark burst we would normally associate with a Gibson-style instrument, but boy does it look good on this Martin!
With more thundering bass under the hood than you’d believe possible, this 00 is perfectly set up with a smooth neck profile, effortless action, and slightly wider nut to lend a little more room to those complex left-hand positions.

Tom Doerr, we adore your work. This 2016 Solace Select is what modern lutherie is all about: agile, responsive, voiced with crisp definition and a dynamic, colorful palette. Add to that fantastic tonewoods and playability and intonation innovations, and it’s a dream machine, baby. Brazilian Rosewood back and sides, Adirondack Spruce on top—multiscale fretboard at 26 to 25 1/8 inches—arm bevel plus beveled bindings all around.
Everything you throw at this Doerr Solace Select, it eats right up. We especially loved taking this one down in CGCGAD, where the added bass tension of the multiscale setup made this tuning absolutely sing.Other keywords: luthier, lutherie, guitarbuilding, doerr guitars, fingerstyle, fingerpicking, modern guitar, gotoh

We’ll take one of John Buscarino’s Grand Cabarets any day. These are hands down some of our all-time favorite crossover nylon string guitars, with John’s impeccable build quality bringing buckets of rich nylon tone to an easy-playing setup. This particular Cabaret from 2012 is dressed up with a Carved Madagascar Rosewood back, and features a Cedar/Adirondack Spruce double top for added power and projection. Additionally, this one has a Venetian Cutaway and one of John’s custom-carved soundports in the upper bout. The neck is closer to Classical dimensions with a 1 15/16” nut, but the scale length comes in at a flattop standard 25.4”. When you’re ready to take this Buscarino on stage, it’s been outfitted with a killer Barbera pickup system to boot!

Drew Heinonen’s builds are a nod to Jim Olson, but with a flavor and tone all Drew’s own. This 2016 SJ is a beautiful example of that with Fiddleback Mahogany back and sides, Adirondack Spruce on top, and elegant wood appointments. It weighs in at a slim four pounds flat, and we love the slim carve of the neck for easy playability. You can lean into this one with an aggressive flatpicking attack and get a lot of bark, or sweetness with fingers. The trebles are smooth, cool, and oh so clear.

The Nashville is a bold stage guitar. The unidirectional carbon/spruce SFT soundboard is finished in an attractive 3-tone tobacco sunburst and supplemented with eye-catching appointments.
How do you describe RainSong’s JM? Three words: loud, loud, and loud. And if that’s not enough, it’s also loud. This is the largest body RainSong builds. The sheer size, combined with the attributes of Projection Tuned Layering™ and Soundboard Fusion Technology™ make the JM one of the loudest acoustic guitars on the planet. This guitar is loud. We had to say it again. But the JM is not just about power. The narrow waist and some layering refinements specific to the Jumbo soundboard give the JM some real fingerstyle grace. The guitar is strong, but impeccably balanced, with bass, mids and trebles distinct, clear and, dare we say it again, loud.SOLD Sale! GR Bear, you can build us a guitar any day. This preowned 2019 OM is a phenomenal instrument with a surgically precise voice and elegant aesthetics. Highly figured Fiddleback Tasmanian Blackwood are paired with a salvaged Red Cedar top for clarity balanced with warmth; dialed in for the fingerstylist. The Cedar top here has a personal provenance from the builder himself: “ I went on a road trip to Haida Gwaii last year with my wife and son. One day my son and I were waking down the beach and I came across this massive cedar stump that had beautiful tight even grain and I thought I want some of that for tops! I asked the locals about salvaging some of the log and got permission from an indigenous Haida man to harvest what I could from the log. I rented a chain saw and loaded up our tiny Toyota Corolla for the 24hr drive home to Vancouver!”
A striking red Padauk bridge sets off the color of the top and Tasmanian Blackwood rosette. We love the stepped headstock and understated visual style. A soundport and hemispherical EVO fret ends rounds out the image. Bear utilizes a carbon falcate bracing scheme for the top, and the result is precision and power for days.
