Taylor pulls out all the stops for their Presentation Series guitars, and we’ve recently landed a fantastic example of that craftsmanship from 2011 in Cocobolo and Sitka Spruce. Taylor’s proprietary Expression pickup system is included to transition into amplified territory effortlessly, and for this Presentation grade piece they trimmed out the entire guitar in Abalone and added a comfy arm bevel to the lower bout for player comfort. The Cocobolo lends a clear and balanced quality to the voice that we found worked well for both quiet and aggressive playing. The setup is slinky and smooth per Taylor specs, and this beautiful Presentation P16ce is in excellent condition to keep on keeping on.

The voice is equal parts silkiness and sonority: our latest Rein RJN-5C is a phenomenal guitar. We love the balance from string to string, the cool trebles and crisp bass, the way fingerstyle feels so natural and easy across the fretboard. It’s got a voice that’s mature beyond its years, and we can’t imagine how beautifully it will continue to open up over time. Cocobolo back and sides, European Spruce top, and Thomas Rein’s proprietary adjustable neck design to keep the setup exactly where you want it. Gotoh tuners upgraded with Snakewood buttons, a French Polished top for maximum resonance (and Catalyzed Urethane elsewhere for durability), Burl Maple rosette ringed in with green herringbone Tom based on an Antonio Torres design, EVO frets for longevity and a Florentine Cutaway for total fretboard access—this Rein is the complete package, and it has a deep and dynamic range to offer for whatever style of music you happen to be playing at the time. Our latest Beneteau is a beautiful Concert Standard from 2005 dressed up in Pommele Sapele and Adirondack Spruce with all the trimmings to sweeten the pot. Venetian cutaway to keep the top frets dust free, soundport to keep you high in your personal mix, Laskin-style arm bevel for creature comfort, and a B-Band dual source, UST + AG-MIC microphone pickup system. What’s else is there to ask for? The setup is a breeze, and we love the crunch and clarity that the Sapele provides to the tone; combined with the stiffness and projection of Adirondack this Beneteau has power and clarity in equal measure.

If it’s good enough for Michael Watts, it’s gotta be good enough for us! We love Jason Kostal’s work, and have happily followed his career for years now. This is a lovely 2012 OM done up in striking Brazilian Rosewood with a German Spruce top and Jason’s stained glass rosette and a Hoffee flight case. The neck carve has a full, generous carve to it that feels great in-hand, and on top Jason built a short, 25 inch scale fretboard to maximize playability and add a little sugar to the trebles at the same time. That sweetness pairs well with a warm and rolling bass response that fills up the voice, but doesn’t spill over into the other registers.

Tight-waisted and crisp-talking as a new dollar bill; we love this 2015 McPherson Camrielle. Pau Rosa back and sides, super straight grained with a little bit of sapwood for drama, and a Redwood top for added warmth. Configured with the slim dimensions of the CMG-4.5, these woods come together for a clean, focused sound that accentuates individual note definition across the strings.
The L.R. Baggs RTS II pickup is a killer addition for when you head up on stage, and the included volume knob inside the soundhole keeps things easy as breathing. That’s what we keep coming back to with this McPherson: it’s such an easy player. It responds well to both picks and fingers, and it handles hybrid picking well, thanks to that added definition in the upper mids and trebles. Comes wrapped up in a custom Hoffee flight case.

An absolute powerhouse dressed to the nines. We’ve got a lovely 2006 Dreadnought from the one and only Wayne Henderson here that’s played in and ready for more action! Brazilian Rosewood back and sides, Appalachian Spruce on top, herringbone trim, Waverly tuners–the works. This Henderson has been lovingly played in since 2006, and we’re happy to report the tone is wide open and expressive. A natural choice for flatpicking Bluegrass, but this Dread holds up handsomely for a wide range of styles; it purrs as easily as it roars. Interested yet?
