2003 Southwell A Series, Indian Rosewood/European Spruce
A lovely example of why Gary Southwell’s guitars are so highly praised: this 2003 A Series plays like butter in the pan, with a quick response and even string balance. The A Series offers a fresh take on the Classical model, with a cantilevered neck (adjustable with the turn of a key at the heel!), Florentine Cutaway, and custom Rodgers tuners. Here with a 1 7/8” nut and slim neck profile for easy left hand work, Indian Rosewood back and sides, and a European Spruce top. The previous owner upgraded this beauty with an L.R. Baggs Anthem SL pickup that sounds so, so good!

Ray Kraut’s guitars are a testament to what’s possible at the bleeding edge of tone. This brand new Mod D is an immensely inspirational guitar that is consistently rich and present from fret one to 20, with surgically precise definition and sustain. African Blackwood back and sides, Italian Spruce on top, and one of Ray’s unique, one-off rosettes, a feat of African Blackwood and burl and arcing purflings. The neck carve and overall setup are butter smooth and effortless. We absolutely love playing this Mod D. Everything about it is elegant, intentional, and in harmony. We’re more than proud to be Raymond’s sole dealer for all these reasons and more.

Clear and clean, with Brazilian Rosewood back and Sitka Spruce top, our 1990 Martin D-40 BLE is the flatpicking machine of choice. Designed in collaboration with Martin and Mike Longworth, the D-40 BLE features white bindings, Abalone trim, the C.F. Martin headstock logo (also in Abalone), and snowflakes on the bridge wings and fretboard. These guitars were a limited run of 50 guitars (you’re looking at number 39 now), and we’ve got the original Mark Leaf flight case that it shipped out in from the Martin factory to boot. In 2016 Martin retopped this beauty and gave it a clean bill of health, so our D-40 BLE is more than ready to get back in the saddle.

We’re proud to announce our latest parternship—this time with local luthier Larry Brown—with six incredible guitars from L-00 copies and Dreadnoughts to SJs and Classicals.
This is one of a pair of new L-00 guitars based on 1932 Gibson specs, complete with Honduran Mahogany back and sides and Adirondack Spruce tops and sunburst. The short scale, 14-fret neck is fully adjustable at the heel, meaning you can keep the setup exactly where you want it with just the twist of a screwdriver. Additionally, they feature trapezoidal cross section bracing, but with morticed brace ends and shiplapped x-braces for added strength. Non scalloped bracing, hot hide glue construction, and a period-matching tiger stripe celluloid pickguard. These guitars soak up fingerpicking quite handily, of course for blues but also great for folk or Americana. Warm, thumping bass response is paired with quick, dry trebles and lots of bark.

So much fun! We don’t want to put it down! But then there’s the incredible tree of life inlays to look at, so we’re forced to alternate between staring and plucking. This 2015 Collings 000-42 is a work of art, inside and out. East Indian Rosewood back and sides, German Spruce top, and painted black from headstock to tailblock, this Collings is tall, dark, and handsome—and sings like a Sunday choir. 12 frets to the body gives a touch of added warmth to the lively voice, and we love how easily this one plays for fingers or picks. Even our guy who doesn’t like 000s is smitten. It’s just that good, with a quick response and energetic projection that leaps out of the soundhole. Added features include Adirondack Spruce braces, Waverly tuners, and a Collings TKL case with green interior.

To celebrate his 10th anniversary, Kevin Kopp pulled out all the stops (and a few neighboring stops, too) for this force-of-nature K-200. Beautiful Brazilian Rosewood back and sides, Adirondack Spruce on top, and a lovely hand rubbed sunburst to make that grain pop! In remaining true to tradition, he then added a hand painted pickguard, Waverly tuners, and a rectangle bridge plus MOP block inlays. The voice is nothing short of incredible. Bass response to shake your bones, and those trebles cut right through the mix. Clean projection, and when you dig in, it digs in too. When you let up, the tone remains crisp and defined. Well, it really does it all, and it does it all really well. Our 2016 Kopp K-200 10th Anniversary is a powerhouse.

We already knew that Jordan McConnell was one of the finest acoustic guitar makers alive, so Dream Guitars was pretty stoked when we found something new show up at our door. Instead of one of his SJs, we found not one but two electric guitars from the man himself–looking dressed up for Sunday dinner with Jordan’s eye for detail and curving headstocks–waiting patiently to be plugged in and cranked up.
This one, s/n E007, was originally built to Paul’s specs, so of course this McConnell has a multiscale fingerboard (26″ on the bass, 25″ on the treble), Wenge neck, back, sides, and trim, Bearclaw Sitka Spruce top, and split McNelly humbuckers. Both guitars feature Jordan’s distinctive neck profile, as well as dual arm and rib bevels. Strung with heavier strings, this electric can cruise down to C or D tunings with ease and the bass notes remain growly and present. With the split coil McNelly pickups, you have a wide range of pickup options to create an entire host of different tones from Rock to Blues, but this baby sounds particularly impressive for fingerstyle Jazz.
Add to that a fancy tailpiece with a hidden mechanism for accessing the string compartment, a Satinwood backstrap on the headstock, and an Ameritage case, and you’ve got one of the classiest rockin’ electrics in your hands. Available now!

A nearly new 00 from Bevan Frost’s Big Hollow workshop! Built in 2018, this beauty already sounds alive and open, all the better to show off the Honduran Rosewood back and sides and Adirondack Spruce top. Bevan finished this one with Oil Varnish in a dark and emotive sunburst that’s offset by Bloodwood bindings and herringbone trim. Rubner tuners and an Ameritage case complete the package.
The voice is equal parts sweet trebles and smoky bass. Bevan chose wisely when he opted for a dark sunburst; it matches the tone to a T. The setup is dialed in for easy playability, and at just over four pounds this Big Hollow 00 is a lightweight guitar that it’s easy to spend long hours with.Other keywords: lutherie, luthier, honduras rosewood, adirondack, fingerstyle, oo, slot head, slotted head

This 1992 Olson SJ falls in one of our favorite ranges for Jim’s guitars from the 1990s. The voice is sweet and melodic, completely opened up and responsive, and the setup is slinky smooth in just about every application. The original LB6 pickup has been replaced with a McIntyre Feather (you’ll find the LB6 in the neck compartment of the case), and we’re happy to report that it sounds rich and organic, even plugged straight into an amp without additional preamp power. Bill Tippin did some work on this beauty, and it’s in fabulous condition for many more years of good tunes ahead. Indian Rosewood back and sides, Cedar top, the classic Olson sound.

This guitar needs no introduction. You’re looking at a 1996 Lattice Classical from Greg Smallman. Brazilian Rosewood back and sides paired with Cedar on top, XXXXX tuners, and the original Tiger Eye wooden case. Touched by a master, this Smallman was originally owned by none other than virtuoso David Tenanbaum. You can find recordings of David with this guitar on his self-titled 1997 record (https://www.discogs.com/David-Tanenbaum-David-Tanenbaum/release/5755209). In true Smallman fashion, this guitar has a signature heft to it, and the fearsome projection and sustain that characterize Greg’s finest work. What more is there to say? A Smallman is completely in its own category, a legacy instrument.
