2012 Buscarino Virtuoso, Master Grade Big Leaf Flame Maple/Master Grade Carpathian Spruce
Buscarino Virtuoso from 2012: Big Leaf Maple and Master Grade Carpathian Spruce. Wow, what a special creation we have here. Featuring a stunning burst finish and Art Nouveau inlays, this guitar is as decadent as it is sonorous—a rare combination that coincides beautifully. Incredible for nearly any application, it would be hard for a guitar enthusiast of any persuasion or background not to feel somewhat enamored by this jazz box, which, quite frankly, can do so much more. Look and listen for yourself, folks—this is truly a masterpiece from John Buscarino

One of the greatest builders of our time, Canada’s own William “Grit” Laskin is known across the globe for transforming the art of instrument inlay from the purely decorative to the downright artistic. Today we have his “Cubists” Jumbo, built in 2003 with Brazilian Rosewood back and sides and a Bearclaw Sitka Spruce top. Laskin’s work has attempted to plumb the depths of artistic exploration for decades now, and it hasn’t reached the bottom yet. His engraved inlay here is a series of colorful Cubist art objects across the fretboard and the headstock inlay is borrowed from Spanish Cubism painter and sculpter Juan Gris’s work, with its asymmetry and pastel palette. Ringing in the soundhole is the square, the circle and the triangle, the geometric shapes that are fundamental forms of cubism, and a pencil offset towards the lower bout.
You can read even more about the Cubists build process and Grit’s inspirations in the second collection of his work, Grand Complications.
Everywhere else, the instrument has more traditional lines, with the addition of both an arm rest bevel and an upper bout soundport. Flatpicked, this instrument roars, with a much more well-rounded sound than its inlays’ angles would suggest. Thanks to the time-honored combination of Sitka Spruce and Brazilian Rosewood, the tone is rich and articulate, with a low-end that is fabulously clean and balanced with the other registers. This is the kind of guitar which will always stand out in a crowd–and that’s before you even play the thing. This guitar comes with the original Calton hardshell case.

Velvet to our ears. This 2015 Kraut 00 is stunning, a testament to modern lutherie and small bodied guitars with big bodied tone. Figured Birdseye Maple back and sides, Italian Spruce on top, and this one features Ray’s elevated fingerboard, which you’ll see actually goes through the top. In excellent condition, this Kraut has sweet, warm trebles that cut right through the mix, and pairs handsomely with a lively, balanced bass response. It’s an excellent fingerstyle instrument, hands down. Alessi tuners, Ebony bindings, and a Hoffee flight case round out the package. We love Ray’s geometric eye when it comes to his rosettes, and the headstock cap here is no exception, perfectly executed.

This guitar is an absolute powerhouse. With a stunning combination of Brazilian Rosewood and Cedar—renowned for its sonorous complexity and warmth—this instrument delivers all that and more. Gernot Wagner’s craftsmanship is on full display here. While this isn’t one of his famous double tops, don’t let that deter you; this guitar is the real deal.
It includes three abalone side dots on the fifth, seventh, and twelfth positions, as well as green-dyed wood accents that add a unique aesthetic to the trim. Honestly, this guitar speaks for itself. It was recently refinished by our talented repair staff.

This beauty was built between 2008 and 2011 with a carved Indian Rosewood back, Spruce top, and a dual source K&K pickup system (combining a Pure Classic with a FanTaStick UST). This Beauregard MB Nylon Jazz weighs in right at four pounds, has a slightly radiused fingerboard and semi-hemispherical fret ends (plus side dots) for ergonomics, and a smart venetian cutaway to maximize fretboard access to the highest notes. We’re already very familiar with Wayne Henderson’s flattops—and we love them dearly. We’ve been fortunate enough to have seen a great number pass through our hands, but until today we’ve never seen what Wayne can do with a Bluegrass Banjo. This Mastertone-inspired wonder was built all the way back in 1975 with gold etched hardware, Maple resonator, and tight flamed Maple neck. This is #5 of only 19 banjos that Wayne has built to date, each unique, and this is one of only two with “Henderson” inlaid at the headstock. Long scale setup at 27” and 1 3/16” nut; a hefty 10lbs 13oz; broken in and opened up tone.

We love, love, love this powerhouse 2021 G.6CA from Bryan Galloup. We picked out a fantastically straight-grained Brazilian Rosewood set for the back and sides, which was then paired with Italian Spruce for smoothness and sustain to match the power and dynamic response. A multiscale setup of 26 inches at the bass to 25 at the treble adds a touch of sweetness to the high-end as well. Moreover, this beauty has an arm bevel and a smoothly curving venetian cutaway for added creature comforts.

This 2017 SG-2 from Sam Guidry is a wolf dressed in wolf’s clothing. Threaded out in brick-red Brazilian Rosewood & Sunday-finest creamy Engelmann Spruce top, elegant Ebony bindings and a generously curvy neck profile. A flair of style in the geometric rosette and miniature soundport. All wrapped up in a Calton flight case.
And behind all those good looks, a voice to make you cry. Sam Guidry has nailed the balance game: each register is equally present, and equally articulate. The bass response is open with a hint of distant thunder, but doesn’t overwhelm the voice. The treble strings are juicy and round, with great sustain. The setup is fast and slick, and when you dig in with a flatpick the SG-2 responds with a ferocious projection. Again Sam aces the balance test, since the same tune but played with fingertips also sounds rich, full, and impressively loud. Individual note definition is superb.
Not only is this SG-2 killing it as a snappy dresser, it’s also got the fat & dynamic tone to back it up. The Brazilian Rosewood for the back and sides is not only gorgeous, it’s also premium quality as a perfect quartersawn set salvaged from an old beam.

The Match King, Ivar Kreuger, was a towering figure of his time, known for his immense wealth and global influence. This extraordinary instrument, crafted by the incomparable Lars Rasmussen, features back and sides made from reclaimed Honduran Mahogany taken from the deck of Kreuger’s yacht, Loris. The stunning aesthetics of this tonewood, with its rich character and history, can be seen in the photos—a truly unique origin story for such an exceptional guitar.
The top is crafted from premium Italian Spruce, paired with Evo frets for a touch of modern refinement. The soft V neck profile and slightly slimmer lower bout ensure exceptional comfort, making this guitar feel compact while delivering a sound that is anything but small. It’s a prime example of why Mahogany remains one of the finest tonewoods, offering warmth, balance, and clarity.
Tying it all together are Alessi tuners at the headstock, completing the look with elegance and precision, and the instrument is protected in a Visenut case. This guitar is not just a delight to play—it’s a piece of history.

A thundercloud built with Red Cedar and Birdseye Maple, this 2003 Advanced Auditorium from Sheldon Schwartz is an excellent guitar for just about every application. The setup strikes a neat balance for both fingerstyle and flatpicking, and we found that this Advanced Auditorium gobbled up lowered tunings for breakfast.
You’re looking at a guitar with a voice to fill rooms with ease, combing the rich and present bass register with fat trebles and a splash of overtones for big-bodied tone and projection. The tip of this tone-iceberg is gorgeous, too: Schwartz trimmed the top in colorfol Mother-of-Pearl which continues seamlessly along the fretboard extension and into the centermost ring of the rosette! Plus a five-ply Mahogany neck and Highlander IP-1 pickup, and the final result is gold for both your ears and eyes.
