Description

Are we excited? That’s an understatement. We’ve just taken on our first archtop from Southern California’s own Tad Brown—and this brand new CC Gold model is a dream come true. Honey amber hues abound with Red Maple back and sides and a Red Spruce top, pale Maple bindings (rounded for such a lovely play feel), and a CC Pickups ES250 Charlie Christian pickup. Slim, slim play weight (just a hair over five pounds, depending on how heavy your strings), combined with those rolled bindings, makes for an effortless player; setup is gossamer from tuner to tail. Rosewood center strip along the back of the neck as a nod to the vintage Charlie Christian ES-175s, and Tad extended that motif for the pickguard, cello bridge, and tailpiece in Rosewood. The ES250 Charlie Christian pickup is strong and crisp when playing electric, and this CC Gold offers a vibrant and balanced acoustic tone as well. One of our favorite Jazz players, Sean McGowan, plays Tad’s instruments—and we can’t think of a finer recommendation than that.

It’s very hard to make an archtop guitar that has an extremely pleasing acoustic sound. Tad Brown has done it! Working with the players like Sean McGowan, he has hone his craft to create something new and exciting in the archtop world in my opinion. This is a guitar I would be just as happy playing unplugged as plugged in. This is a world-class instrument from an up-and-coming luthier.
