In 2014 Gibson collaborates with founding member of the Black Crowes, Rich Robinson, on an exclusive run of 500 ES-335s, a nail-for-nail recreation of Robinson’s ’63 ES-335 which was destroyed by Hurricane Sandy in 2012 (and later painstakingly restored). This beauty is wrapped up with period correct faded Cherry finish from Gibson’s VOS process, Burstbucker pickups (#1 at the neck and a hotter #2 at the bridge), and a nod to the original’s “Custom Made” plate covering stopbar stud holes. Small block inlays on a Rosewood fingerboard, plus a beefy Bigsby vibrato, round out the looks. These Burstbuckers are sweet and juicy, and are infinitely adaptable to a wide range of genres; the Maple semi-hollow body also adds sustain, color, and feedback resistance. This Rich Robinson Signature has all the mojo we’d expect from a true ’63—plus the playability of a like new, well-oiled machine.
