Description

The folks with Kenny Hill have been building crossover guitars for a number of years now, and a few years back they launched their custom Performance Crossover line—and they’ve never looked back. This particular example comes from 2016, is in great shape with Indian Rosewood back and sides, and boasts an impressive double top of layered Engelmann-Nomex-Red Cedar for projection and sustain. A short, 640mm scale and 1 7/8” nut make for easy playability, and the addition of twin soundports flanking the heel help the player keep in touch with their tone while performing. You’ll find the neck has more of a C-shaped profile than the traditional D of a Concert Classical, and it’s especially easy on the left hand. The overall weight is a slim 3lbs 8oz, and the radiuses fretboard helps make this Performance Crossover feel like a steel string guitar, but with the sensitivity and color of a nylon string instrument.

Kenny Hill is well known for his approach to bringing the classical guitar into the modern age. While he completely respects tradition, he also believes the guitar should evolve to meet modern needs. This is evident in this Performance Crossover model with its radiused fingerboard and narrow nut width. It is well suited for modern styles of music like Brazilian and jazz, but also still performs perfectly for the classical repertoire. This is a no-compromise crossover guitar from one of the world's best builders.
