We’re always excited to have one of Mike Baranik’s beauties in the shop, and this CX model from 2002 is a fantastic example of what happens when modern lutherie earns some age to it: powerful, wide open, easy playing. Gorgeous Brazilian Rosewood back and sides pair up perfectly with a European Spruce top that’s opened up handsomely. It’s a great option for fingerstyle, with it’s even-keeled response and string-to-string balance. We appreciate how notes seem to really play nicely with each other, making big chords sound out crisp and clear, or fast passages defined. The CX body is a great middle-of-the-road shape for volume and projection while still feeling comfortable and intimate in your hands, it’s the sort of instrument you can easily lose track of time with.
