Description

Given a little time to open up, and this 2005 CX from Mike Baranik is singing like an orchestra. The voice is lively and energetic, and individual notes have a quality of weight and presence that really fills out the sound. It takes really well to both light and more aggressive attacks, too, maintaining that precision and definition throughout. The nut is a touch wider than average at 1 25/32”, which our long-fingered players found as a breath of fresh air. Additionally, the weight balance between body and neck favors the body slightly, which also makes for a very comfortable playing experience on both the right and left legs. The condition is excellent, par for the course for a well preserved instrument such as this Baranik CX, which lets the quality of the materials shine out: Bearclaw-figured German Spruce on top, dramatic Brazilian Rosewood back and sides; Ebony bindings and a tastefully curvy Venetian Cutaway.

What a beautiful guitar by Mike Baranik. The voice to me is lush and compelling and it makes me want to play more, and that’s what a great guitar should do.
