The late Lance McCollum assembled an impressive body of work in his time, including a great number of great Baritones. We’ve loved every single one that we’ve played here in the shop, and this 2005 example is nothing less than stellar. Cocobolo body with Spruce on top, 27.5″ scale at a sweet spot between short and (very) long scale; dressed up with just enough Abalone to make it all pop. Great string to string balance, and especially for a Baritone this beauty has rich, strong trebles. The neck is reinforced with multiple laminations for added stability, and we’re happy to report this 17-year-old Baritone is in excellent playing shape, indeed. Add a bridge plate transducer B-Band pickup, and you’re ready for just about anything.
Lance McCollum was simply one of the most prolific makers of baritone guitars amongst today's modern greats. I believe he built approximately 34 baritone guitars in his career, which unfortunately ended too early when he was just 49 years old. He personally played baritone and that passion drove him to create a wonderful design that I still feel is one of the best. This example in Cocobolo and Spruce really works to offer a full voice that remains clear in the bass register. As a baritone player myself I can't recommend McCollum baritones highly enough. Grab it!
