Michi Matsuda excels on all fronts. Each instrument is unique and do it self, with a fine artists’ eye for curve and line, and commitment to the finest materials. Here we’ve got dark African Blackwood back and sides with gorgeous sapwood that matches the skunk stripe paintjob on the European Spruce top. This 2011 build has opened up so much! The Birdseye Maple fingerboard and headstock inlay maintain the skunk stripe motif all along the body.

What a cool guitar. I own one of Michihiro Matsuda's guitars in my personal collection. To me he is one of the most artistic makers on the planet today. Hailing from Japan where woodworking is done at the highest level on the planet, his eye for creativity is very special. This black-and-white style guitar nicknamed the skunk, features gorgeous Birdseye Maple contrasted against black lacquer and the dark side of African Blackwood. Really unique and gorgeous and a wonderful example of using the natural beauty of the materials to create something special.
