Martin’s D-18 Authentic 1939 (from 2014) is a powerhouse built to emulate the prewar D-18 we all covet, and here features hot hide glue construction throughout, Adirondack Spruce top over Mahogany body, the “Authentic” barrel-and-heel neck profile, and this is one of the last 1939 Authentics Martin released without their VTS treatment, setting it apart from later Authentics. The voice is wide awake and powerful, with a dry, woody response and quick decay. Well-cared for, this 2014 Authentic is in great playing shape with only a few marks, and is more than ready to get down to the business of making music.
