Straight-grained Indian Rosewood back and sides–ditto for the Sitka Spruce top—make for a pretty box all on their own, but then there’s the 45-style Ivoroid and Abalone trim to really set off it off with panache. When you plug this dread in, that’s where a whole new palette of magic unfolds. Martin installed a Fishman Aura VT Enhance on this bad boy, which features a digital acoustic image of several vintage D-45s from Martin’s museum recorded with nine different vintage microphones in Bil Vorndick’s Nashville studio. Run through Fishman’s electronics, the result is a 2015 Martin that, when amplified, sounds like the vintage original. You can easily switch between three different mic blends and the straight pickup tone. So simple, it takes only a moment to dial in the sound you need.
