We’ve been eagerly waiting for a Preston Thompson Dreadnought to land in our lap, and our patience has been rewarded handsomely! This 2016 Preston Thompson is dressed up in their secret stash “Shipwreck” Brazilian Rosewood with an Adirondack Spruce top and Abalone torch inlaid across the headstock. Logo on the backstrap, herringbone trim and a zigzag backstrip; to call it gorgeous would be an understatement.
The projection and dynamic response from this guitar are inspirational to say the least, with a powerful bass register that’s defined rather than muddy, paired with crisp trebles and a colorful midrange. Played gently or with gusto, this PKT Dread exhibits a robust fundamental and impressive sustain. The playability is exceptional, the condition impeccable, and the tone incredible. Need a dread for the stage? This beauty comes with one of James May’s Utra Tonic pickups! Lesser Dreadnoughts, beware! You’re owners might not look at you the same way after they’ve played this Preston Thompson.
