And now for a slice of something different, modern, and sustainable. Joel Michaud of Michaud Made has teamed up with the producers of Rocklite for a new material they’re calling Sundari Rocklite, or synthetic Indian Rosewood. The result is a more sustainable use of Rosewood for guitars that also has the added benefit of being extra stable. On top Joel used Swiss Spruce, and the two combine for a sweetly balanced tone that adds a touch of roundness in the trebles. Gorgeous Robson tuners at the headstock, and between the posts you’ll find a unique oxidized metal inlay that echoes Joel’s über cool metal rosette. We simply love the use of oxidized metal here; it adds a splash of dramatic color and very much sets it apart from the Abalone crowds. Being a 00 body, this Michaud is very comfortable in hand and play effortlessly, helped by a florentine cutaway, elevated fingerboard, and upper bout soundport. Built in 2019 and looking the part!

Here's a very cool guitar from Joel Michaud. When this first came in, I spoke to him about the Rocklite synthetic Rosewood material he used here for the back and sides. Joel, like many makers, is looking for alternative materials to build great guitars without further jeopardizing our rainforests. Rocklite has made a name for itself, and many builders have been using it for bridges and trim elements for years, but here Joel worked directly with the manufacturer to create a full width Rosewood set for the back and sides of this guitar. He said it has a great energy and wonderful tone, and he's looking forward to inspiring other makers to use this material going forward. Listen for yourself. We think it's wonderful and of course we want to support ways of making world-class guitars at the same time that we continue to better manage our forests.
