When Michael Millard and his team are given free rein to explore new possibilities, flawless and powerful guitars are the result. The Froggy Bottom Featured D-12 we have in the store today is the product of those explorations and Millard’s fascination with a 1950’s Roy Smeck Gibson “Stage Deluxe” that belonged to a friend of his father. Millard describes that guitar as “haunting; the sonority in the wound strings [was] just beyond words,” and when he constructed this D-12 in East Indian Rosewood and Adirondack Spruce, he managed to achieve just that–a voice rich with resonance, sustain, and emotion. The construction is lightweight, but sturdy, and the soundbox offers great projection for flatpicking or fingerstyle. Millard’s penchant for 12-fret designs places the bridge lower on the body to allow the Adirondack Spruce to respond instantly to the strings’ vibrations. Curly Maple bindings and the smoky tobacco sunburst are a perfect counterpoint to the Abalone rosette and Ebony fretboard; the guitar is beautiful, from all angles. This guitar comes with the original TKL hardshell case.
