Here’s a wonderful 1969 Gibson J-50 Diamond Jubilee brought to us by a local gent who played it for years. It has that dry, throaty Mahogany Dread sound that is so engrained in our music. Strum a G chord and it fills the room with that great J-50 chime. We had Master Luthier Bill Tippin go over it and it now plays like a new guitar and will need nothing for years. This classic Gibson acoustic has the more squared off shape of the Martin dread and it has the Martin style bridge setup as well. Not surprisingly, it reminds me a lot of a Martin guitar. I can see this instrument being used in a Bluegrass or Country setting where it is important to cut through the mix.
