I love this powerhouse. It's a absolute thrill to play. The big, strong voice is perfect for blues or ragtime and the wide spacings beg you to play fingerstyle. It's got big bass notes, that sound amazing when snapped with the thumb and a huge, yet balanced quality up the entire fingerboard. I've always love the Prairie State guitars made famous by Stefan Grossman and others, but this is a unique version with style all it's own. The inlays are extremely well done and very cool, giving this guitar true pizzazz as well. This is $10K worth of tone in my opinion!
This guitar built by Dixie Michell is an amazing testament to this kind of construction, seen first in the Prairie State guitars. By having a steel bar attaching the heel to the endblock the top can be more lightly braced, resulting in a very "big" sound. The top bracing is concentrated on the lower bout and consists of a series of small cross-hatched braces. The guitar has one of those "baseball bat" necks which is very comfortable and stable. The action is low and the tone is perfect. A real collectible of our times and one of the best sounding guitars I've ever played.
